I went through my entire collection of Ford 300 six images (almost 500 images at last count) and didn't find one. Not even one.

Weird.

Not pictures exactly, but here's an exhaust video I took of mine that should get you a few different angles.

I have since bead blasted, primed and painted that ugly ass air cleaner satin black. I got the cleaner assembly for free, and other than the paint, it was in flawless condition, so I cant complain.
I converted the '83 truck to use the '95 serpentine belt system, which is nice, minus the smog pump. I shaved down the one mounting bolt head and rerouted a shorter belt around the alternator pulley. I also converted the '83 divorced voltage regulator to the 1 wire '95 alternator setup, which is nice, too.
I put an a/c compressor from a fox body mustang on there, too.

Isnt it interesting to see the carb air cleaner, the serpentine belt system, and the '72 points distributor all under one hood?? :D

I love the look of this cast iron paint I used on the intake. Now I can't recall the exact name of it from the paint can.. bah "Cast coat" maybe?

Oh, and I don't have a pic, but I used the '95 EFI throttle cable, too, because the original '83 cable snapped a few weeks ago.

The '95 cable is a bit longer, which is good, because it makes a bigger loop, which means less strain on the cable. I cut the top off the old throttle bracket, and welded on the top piece of the '95 bracket, so the cable could just snap right in the hole. It works sweet. The end that connects to the throttle pedal is the same as the original, too.

Edit: OK, I took a pic just now anyway.

I think starting in 82(?), the 300 came with a much larger air filter. I think it went from an 8" to a 10" or 12".

stock intake/carter/efi exhaust

Postby econovan » Fri Mar 20, 2009 8:04 pm

I'm planning the same combo for my van but have some questions.

How do you supply heat to the carb like the heat valve in the stock exhaust manifold does?

What's the recommended muffler setup for two exhaust pipes?

Thanks :)

I don't have any intake heater on it, and it's a pain in the cold weather, because it hesitates a lot for the first 15 minutes of running it. In the warmer weather, it's not an issue. If I had the intake on the bench, I would weld up a watertight heater box and bolt it to the underside of the intake, where the exhaust manifold used to attach, and plumb it to circulate engine coolant.

An easy way to get heat to the intake is to plumb coolant up to it. This is usually done by making a plate that bolts to where the exhaust used to go, and then having an in and out pipe fitting made into the plate. Do a quick search for Harte3 on here, he has pictures of his setup and has posted pictures to it many times. It works great.

Thanks guys,
where can I get this heater plate?

And what kind of mufflers are there to get the two pipes in and out?

Friend, you will have bigger issues than the heater plate. The EFI exhausts won't fit in the early econo DH. The front one points smack into the DH wall.

You can however, run Clifford headers, as Clifford used the econoline for the pattern on their 53-0015 shorty headers.

The heater plate, just take a 1/4" steel plate, weld in a couple fittings, and plumb into it.

What engine do you have?

John

Hey 56Mulberry that spacer looks great! Did you have it CNC'd up? I'm in the process of ditching the feedback on my 85 and I'd love to avoid putting the egr back on, but I still need height provided by it. Nice job though, looks like it took some time and effort but it shows. :D
