4.0 jeep intake on a 300 six???

Postby sdiesel » Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:00 am

this throttle body manifold from the late model jeep is, for lack of a better word, sexy compared to most
The design looks perfect for my propane needs.
Short of buying a jeep engine has anyone fooled around with a graft onto a 300 six?

here is a link to a google image.

its a looney idea i should never have posted this. the outer two intake ports appear to be siamesed which is a non starter right there.

At one time, when Jack was still alive, Clifford was developing an EFI system for their 4V manifold. It used an adaptor plate to mount the T/B and the tops of manifold runners were machined for the injectors. I do not know if additional metal was added to the casting to provide bosses or not. If additional metal is required, buttering 6 pads of aluminum onto the top of the manifold should be doable for any weld shop that can work in aluminum.

Mayber you can re-invent that wheel?

Both of my Jeeps (a 99 and a 06 have that intake) I think the port spacing is slighly better suited to a 144-250 however If you took a lower factory 300 EFI manifold and that 4.0 Jeep intake I'd think you make one work with a bitof cutting, grinding and welding.
That intake is Quite good on a 4.0L . Equal length runners are hard to do on a inline 6 with 1 throttle body!!

Wouldn't this just be a whole lot easier with your choice of throttle bodies / plenum???

sdiesel: I was wrong. your idea was not looney. after reading what others have written (StrangeRanger and 80broncoman), I must admit it has posssibilities. You guys are the ones who keep their eyes open and see products and methods that others (like me) do not see. As I said before, I was wrong.

FTF: That intake is beautiful! Great thinking. Is it something you make? If so, do you sell them?
Best of luck to all...jack

For multiple throttle bodys FTF's intake is defintly the bomb.

I did not make it. It was made by my genius machinist friend Pete - the same dude who built a 300 six powered Pinto that was quite successful. He was a designer at Ford Engine Engineering. He also has a 300 powered T-bucket roadster that he built that intake for, shown in the background of the pic.

I did some of the welding on this intake and also did the tin work on his Pinto. It was great to have a friend that I could bounce ideas off of and vice-versa. His plan was to build several different tops to try different setups. I don't think other tops were made however.

Three Rochester 2Gs would look nice on that base, no?

The Rochester 2Gs or 2GCs are probably the most overlooked 2v carb out there and would not only look great but should perform quite well.
