New owner of 1968 Mustang with a straight six

Postby brncbldr70 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:15 pm

Bought it with my son to rebuild for his daily driver when he gets to high school. We are in the process of pulling the motor. Compression was 68-70 lbs per cylinder. A shot of WD40 got the compression up to 168 -170lbs.

Looking at rings and possibly a cam.

Glad we found this sight. Our last project was a 1970 Bronco with a 302. I must admit the straight six allows a lot more room for work.

Welcome aboard Roy! This is a Great site. I remember my excitement at stumbling across it and the flurry of initial upgrades and mods that proceeded all the great information here.

Building or rebuilding a six is a terrific father and son bonding activity, and it will give your son some valuable experience in self sufficiency...highly underated these days... and yup there's room for both of you under the hood :D

Sounds like you're on the right track with the rings...especially when something as light as wd40 will make that big of an improvement. Good luck as you and your son pursue 'The Hobby' together, and if you have time please do fill in your location (at least your state) as it's always good to have some reference of where you're from. 8)

Welcome Roy.

If you stay here too long, you'll never have another V-8 again! I remember I was about 3 weeks away from pulling my 200 for a 302 when I found this site. 8 years later...still got the 200 and looking over the next year to finally get it up to 250-300 BHP.
