All on different passes too!

I made 3 of my fastest times ever right in a row,

14.12 @ 94.09 mph
14.15 @ 94.09 mph
14.11 @ 94.27 mph

All these times compliments of Mikes new "X" pipe exhaust system!

I'll list all the times and all the passes later tonite.

Heres all my times from today running the Classic Inlines "X" pipe and street hookups with my Flowmaster mufflers installed this time around.

Jetting is 69 primary, 72 secondary, long yellow secondary spring, 36 degrees total advance, (to start with) leaving at 3000 rpms against the converter, shifting at 5800 rpms from 1st to 2nd and shifting at 6000 rpms from second to 3rd. Going through the traps @ 5200 rpms. :D

1st couple of passes to get everything warmed up, kinda granny shifting it at 5500-5800 rpms.

60' 2.02 1/8 mile 9.16 @ 75.80 1/4 mile 14.41 @ 92.69
60' 2.03 1/8 mile 9.19 @ 75.79 1/4 mile 14.44 @ 92.87.

Iced down my cool can and let er rip!

60' 2.04 1/8 mile 9.14 @ 76.17 1/4 mile 14.35 @ 93.29
60' 2.02 1/8 mile 9.09 @ 76.54 1/4 mile 14.30 @ 93.12
60' 2.00 1/8 mile 9.13 @ 76.02 1/4 mile 14.38 @ 92.72
60' 1.97 1/8 mile 9.03 @ 76.54 1/4 mile 14.28 @ 92.74

Let it cool down for a little bit and bumped the timing ahead to 38 degrees total advance.

60' 1.95 1/8 mile 9.01 @ 76.54 1/4 mile 14.20 @ 93.31
60' 1.98 1/8 mile 9.05 @ 76.41 1/4 mile 14.26 @ 93.29
60' 1.98 1/8 mile 9.06 @ 76.41 1/4 mile 14.28 @ 93.20

It seemed to like more advance so I turned it just a hair more. I havent timed it yet but its probably in the 39-40 degrees @ 3200 rpm range. Doesnt ping yet and if it does I'll just mix some race fuel in with it.

60' 1.95 1/8 mile 8.96 @ 77.19 1/4 mile 14.12 @ 94.09
60' 2.01 1/8 mile 9.00 @ 77.33 1/4 mile 14.15 @ 94.09
60' 1.96 1/4 mile 8.96 @ 77.21 1/4 mile 14.11 @ 94.27

All in all it was a fun day and my 09 race season ended on a great note!

Gotta find a online calculator to compute HP again. I weighed the car at the track and today it weighed 2728 with me in it.

Very impressive. I love your enthusiasm and excitement. Keep sharing the good news -- and the bad. Sometimes you need a wall to punch too.

The worst bike ride of my life - May 3, 2003. Fifty miles, uphill through rain and sleet on a mountain bike for MS. I loved it. Came back three more times to make a difference.

This year: from Irvine to Oceanside to San Diego - 156 miles ridden with $3380 raised to help fight Multiple Sclerosis. Thanks guys!

Thanks Tony! :D

Actually there was one "Bad" (moment) run now that you mention it...

I learned a valuable lesson....

When you miss 2nd gear and go into 3rd DO NOT try to downshift and keep going. I was trying to get back into 2nd gear and hit 1st instead and the tach instantly hit 7000+ rpms before I could get it back into 3rd and coast the rest of the way down the track. Didnt seem to hurt it any though??

Heres the time from that pass!

60' 1.95 1/8 mile 9.38 @ 65.64 1/4 mile 15.94 @ 64.60

This probably would have been my fastest pass being my 330' time was 5.7516. My fastest passes 330' time was a 5.7714 but that is the way it goes...

Thanks,

BTW, it's Eric not Tony. But that's otay.

Doug that is great.
Some of the gain may have been that nice fall Michigan weather, sounds like you were jetted for it.
I got about 48F, 40% humid, and 30.30 pressure with 658 ft alt track, giving about DA=-200 ft (ie below sea level) - very good air.

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-alt ... ather+Data

In my Gonkulator computer, this gave most of the gain, but would not account for all of it. I got about +5 torq and +5 power, both net, about 3 from the weather and 2 from the exhaust.
Super strong 60ft time too you must have had a fun day. 8)

Sorry but the weather didnt do it.....

I raced the weekend before which had almost the exact same weather conditions and it only went 14.36's.

Fastest pass,

60' 2.04 1/8 mile 9.14 @ 76.54 1/4 mile 14.36 @ 93.12

Quote from the exhaust topic in the small six section,

Went to the track last Saturday to test the new "X" pipe and the street hookups.

It went a 14.47 @ 92.70 on the 1st pass and it was obvious that it was running way lean and that the "X" pipe and street hookups had changed the tune of the car. I bumped the primary jet size up to #69 jets and added 2 degrees of timing and I went a 14.36 @ 93.12 on the 2nd pass.

It was still lean surging a bit and it started to rain so I wasnt able to make any more passes. I'm going this Saturday again and I'm going to bump the jet sizes up a bit more and maybe add another degree of advance to the timing.

We'll see what happens.

Later,

Doug

Doug,
Sorry I had not read the exhaust post yet. Thanks for supplying the detail, it makes a difference trying to sort things out, hope I can help somehow! :?
So it sounds like the 14.36 run (Oct 10?) was with the Arvinode muffs, and the 14.11 (Oct 17?)was with the Flowmasters? (With the x-pipe on both dates?)

Yes the weather on both those dates looks similar, maybe 1-2 net hp better on the 17th but not much diff. Still, both dates had air that was maybe 5 net hp better than typical summer race weather, at least the kind I usually get.

I have never seen the inside of the Arvinode muffler but from what I could back-calculate the Flowmasters are about 5-6 net hp better. What does the inside of the Arvinode look like? A Glasspack (smooth pipe but perforated) or other? What's the inside diameter on them?

Just curious, I did a search on the Arvinode system, did not realize that is what came on the early K Mustangs.
