and dark green & black are cool. (Ford Blue is kinda wimpy...)What fun. What a sturdy, purposeful ingot!

yeah actually anyone got any suggestions for paint color?
Its going in a flat black f150, so there is alot of choice for colors.

I was thinking like that grey color ford used to paint their tractors, for the block, and then black for oil pan and rocker cover

but thats not very creative haha, so i am open to suggestions

Since you can actually SE it- its not in a Econo- you ever see Hammerit paint by Rustoleum? You lay on a silver undercot, & hit it with the hammerit, looks pretty nice. That would be for the tin bits.
Black tin/intake/dark green block, or if you hit the archives teres pics of a guys Catarpillar Yellow engine, admittedly not for everyone.

Then theres black block, dark green tin....black aircleaner, brackets.....
or "cast iron" color block & black tin......black transfers heat, dosnt keep it in....not that thats a problem with the greatst mass produced 6 ever built....

I always go with dark corporate Ford blue on the block, then bead blast and clear coat the aluminum pieces.

ive been checking out engines on the internet and looking for ideas, ive been thinking a battle ship grey for the block and flat black for everything else

im going for a very industrial or military kind of look (truck will be either flat black or military green)

anyways it will be done and painted in the next week or two, so i will put some more pics up then

Slap a turbo on it, build it for about 400 HP, paint it hot pink and just wait for someone to open his mouth.

Before painting my blocks I usually spend an hour smoothing the casting with a die grinder and an abrasive tootsie roll. It gives any paint a glossier effect and makes cleaning the engine grunge easier.

For those indicating "battle ship gray", I don't know if you're aware of this or are speaking of a different shade of gray, but Ford used a light gray on many of its engines in the '80s and early '90s.

9N's, 2N's and 8N's. The red/blue/black/any other color was added by dealers and the individuals that bought those tractors. I think they started using a different darker gray on the 2N's or 8N's, probably the 2N's would have the darker "Battleship Grey" since those were the war-time cost savers.

Then of course in the Battleship Grey department we have pre Radar "Admiralty Disruptive" paint schemes......hmmmmmmmmmmm
The Huns had the most interesting take on that, as thier lines were usually straight, & not wavy.

My BB6 will be installed in a Willys Jeep truck, so it's the only color that would do... in-your-face Ford Blue! Contrasting & shiny bolt-on pieces being added, however.

I'm either going to paint my block a dark red or dark green with black covers/brackets. I woulf go with a nice red, but everything else under the truck is red and I don't want to be TOO redundent
Bruiser - 1990 Ford F150...barely...EFI 300 Big Six, nearly 300K and strong, Converted to 4x4, Undergoing 3/4 Ton SAS. 4.10 gears and Sterling Semi-Floating rear w/ Trac-Lok. [Turbo 300] build waiting on money as well...

Our Iowa class went through a few different camo paint schemes, too. (one of those camo designs is going on my '78 Bronco, in fact)

Check also the Graf Spee......the false bow wave was a common pre radar idea.
War 1 saw astounding "Admiralty Disruptive" paint jobs that must have been an incredible amount of work.
Sigh. about all the nifty paint I can see is my highlighting the timing marks on the cam gear case.......im a frustrated artist......

Or highlight them using a fine brush with paint of a contrasting color nearly wiped off so the brush is nearly "dry". You only want paint on the tops of the raised areas.

Or a silver Sharpie pen. Real easy to control, and permanent.

I painted my timing cover with clear coat after I bead blasted it, so I used a black sharpie to do the marks. :)
