Is the 390 cfm adequate or is a larger carb more in line with the flow of the new head? The ported big valve head with the larger street cam will need a 600 cfm carb. You can lighten the pistons without taking weight off the crank - and vice-versa - just be sure all weights of the piston are the same, and the crank is rebalanced. I've got a rebuilt '78 300 with '87 head and split exhaust. Offenhauser 4bbl intake, Holley 600 4bbl, a mild CompCams 252H, new distributor.
