Your gas mileage depends on a lot of things. Best ever gas mileage I got w/ a 3oo Ford six was in a brand new 1985 base model F-150, no factory a/c with overdrive 4 spd manual trans. I commuted from Front Royal, Va. 80 miles to Washington D.C. five days a week, in "pre rush hour traffic". ...

I had an early 80's wagon w/ the vv carb on a 302. When it was running good, it pulled as hard as my 1970 LTD wagon w/ a 2150 motorcraft atop a 351W (I ran a carpool). I miss none of it.

I totally agree,CNCdude, the torque was there, but those pistons were flat tops and they said they req'd 93 octane. With all that was bolted on, they managed to match a stock 289 2v (200hp @ flywheel). 300's were rated 170hp @ flywheel and the FI 300's were 150 net hp...If I'm wrong please correct m...

They cleaned it up, put pistons, cam,intake,roller rockers,4bb carb, HEI, headers, and didn't get 1hp per cube??? wow.

Thanks again,everyone. The plan is to obtain one, measure everything, see if it can be adjusted to handle the (stock) 300. If it matches the yf it's a win unless mounting it envokes Murphy's Law. The best engine deserves the best options.....

Anything will fit w/ the help of Mr. Sawzall and desire. A body lift kit could make some room. Have you considered putting the Jeep on the truck frame- stretch the body; or shorten the truck frame...??? I helped stuff a 460 into a LUV truck about 15 years ago... gas pedal went where e-brake would go...

If there is a higher flowing 1v carb that allows me to retain the stump pulling characteristics of the stock...

...both ISKY and CLIFFORD seem to be grinding the same lobes for the 250 small six and our 300's, and reporting similar performance. they're not the only ones....shop wisely... this IS mechanical brain surgery..... :bang:

Once upon a time, I had an obstruction manifest itself in the intake runner, and the primary exhaust tube to that cylinder glowed red- and alerted me there was a problem before I went for a test drive..... just thought I'd share...... :bang:

I ran a 240 w/ an Offy intake and 390 Holley and headers... I drive in the DC area. Never noticed a need for heat- the 69 E150 ran great and delivered 16-17 mph. My current 84 F150 4x4 w/ 300 all stock runs just as good- gets 20mpg hwy w/ 35"BFG's... Bottom line.. don't try to out think THEFACT...

A bunch of vacuum hoses became a bunch of vacuum leaks. I went retro and re did everything circa 1969, then bumped up the timing. I'm in a much happier place, now.... my wife will even drive it on rare occasions!!! (1984 4x4, 4 spd) :nod:

A hundred years ago there was a guy street racing (and making money) in an early Falcon that had 6 1bbl. sidedrafts rubber hose clampped to a hacked stock intake... it had headers/ 4 spd. Everyone smiled when the hood was up...
