Re: Anyone here successfully running an aftermarket EFI System, Megasquirt, Holley Hp, Sniper, Atomic, FITech?

I'm using the TFI module, coil and distributor from an early '90s F150 with the 4.9. So far so good. The distributor was a direct drop-in for my 240 engine, despite the 30-year difference in age. The key step was getting MS to recognize the signal from the distributor's internal Hall Effect sensor, ...

Re: Converting fuel sender to fuel pump

Very creative way to add an in-tank fuel pump. I already have a Mustang tank in my '65 E-pup. When I decided to go with fuel injection, I bought a drop-in high-pressure pump kit from Tanks Inc. Fairly easy install and so far so good. I did have to cut a big hole in the top of my tank and then hammer...

Here's a closer look at the head and where I think the cuts were made. Arrows point to front and rear head cuts, valve cover join and valve cover boss. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/VANPf4or0G8rj_np1oJgYO8Vgg3P1Jb0mPi0PM9pAVYBgd8Jg4WP4oIkENF90HmcvyGItQWbwLx5rdVV-N59qEL5Z4uKo0PasDOGfenF4oJxA_jPAg...

Re: Anyone here successfully running an aftermarket EFI System, Megasquirt, Holley Hp, Sniper, Atomic, FITech?

I'm using MegaSquirt on my build. Been operational for a few months now. Somewhat steep learning curve but doable. I removed the original carb, intake and exhaust and hand-built my own intake and fuel injection system to fit inside the engine compartment of my Econoline pickup. Runs great! Here is a...

Seeing is Believing: LS1 into crossflow 300

In case anyone ever doubted the ability to turn two chopped Ls1 heads into a crossflow head for a Ford 300, wonder no more. Spotted this baby at a little car show in Tulsa. Never raced and used as a casual weekend driver. Talked with the owner, a nice older guy who saw it as a challenge. 240 rods, f...

Re: Turbo 240 w/EFI

You're the second person to suggest a fan. There's plenty of room and I already have to run power to the scavenger pump in the same general area so it would be fairly easy to do. Still, my initial thought is to fashion a scoop to direct air up thru the IC. My only concern would be how much road crap...

Re: Turbo 240 w/EFI

Oil to the turbo comes from a spin-on adapter sandwiched between the oil filter and block. I have a 1/2" drain pipe coming out of the bottom of the turbo to a scavenger pump that will push the oil back to a 1/2" fitting installed on the oil pan. Given the tight engine compartment, there wa...

Turbo 240 w/EFI

Never satisfied with leaving well enough alone, I'm in the process of building a EFI turbo setup for my '65 Econoline pickup using the original 240ci engine. I've built and installed a MegaSquirt EFI system controlling a Chevy throttle body injection (TBI) setup. The turbo is hanging back by the tra...

Re: anyone use microsquirt?

I bought two eight ohm, 25 watt resistors from a local electronic supply house for my two TBI injectors. They were like $2 each. If you use a ballast resistor from another car just be sure to measure their ohm value. There are on-line calculators that will tell you what size you need, depending on t...

Re: Throttle body injection with Megasquirt on a Ford 240

I got my 1965 Econoline pickup running recently using a Ford TFI ignition system providing the RPM signal for a older DIY PNP v1.1 board and ms2extra-release-3.4.2. On this project I'm 'squirting the original '65 Ford 240ci straight six. I'm using a Chevy TBI (throttle body injection) on a custom lo...

Re: 93 F150 300 i6 Megasquirt "how to and build thread"

I'm using an Innovate LC-1 wideband O2 system on my Econoline build. Wideband is a must. Only one wire from the sensor goes to the DIY PNP board. Looking at the diagram below (92-95 4.9) pin 29 should run to your 02 sensor, along with pin 49. Use an ohm meter to see which of those goes from the o2 s...

Re: Throttle body injection with Megasquirt on a Ford 240

If you download the current stable software for MS/Extra it will include a basic tune, including a fuel map that will get you started. You tune from there. The fuel map was very rich for my 240, but it started and ran first try. In the software you tell it what size engine and the size of your injec...

Re: anyone use microsquirt?

For my first build, I went to the junk yard and found a car with the correct computer, took the computer apart and cut the connectors off the board inside. If they are offering a connector that allows you to plug the Squirt into your stock harness, that saves you a bunch of hassle and seems reasonab...

Re: anyone use microsquirt?

I looked at Microsquirt. In talking to the DIY guys, you'll need some big resistors in line to run the injectors as compare with regular Megasquirt. I think the resistors needed for the Microsquirt setup on a large TBI style injector is a pricey item. So, it may not be as much of a bargain as it lo...

Re: anyone use microsquirt?

I'm using a Microsquirt PNP unit from DIYAutotune. It's an earlier version than the one you linked to. The key to make these system work on the Ford sixes is a system to monitor engine revolutions. I'm using the Ford TFI ignition system, since the distributor for the 300 ci engines from the 80s/90s ...

Re: GM TBI Fuel Injection

The truck isn't driveable just yet, but should be in the next few days. My setup uses the throttle body from a 5.0 Chevy Silverado with 54? lb injectors. The 4.3 TBI is the same size only has smaller injectors. They would have been fine, but I hope to add a turbo in the near future so I went bigger ...

Re: GM TBI Fuel Injection

I just recently got my 1965 Econoline Pickup running with a Chevy TBI on a custom log manifold mounted to my original, stock 240 engine. The distributor from a 1989 Ford F150 300 ci was a direct drop-in replacement and let me marry the Ford TFI ignition system from the late 80s/early 90s to MegaSqui...

Re: Throttle body injection with Megasquirt on a Ford 240

Thanks. I saw your thread on the f150 project. In the small world category, my first Megasquirt/turbo project was on an '87 MR2. I ended up with a little over 200 hp out of the 1.6 L 4age engine. That was back in 04/05 and the car is still running great, according to the current owner. I was the fir...

Throttle body injection with Megasquirt on a Ford 240

I'm working my way through wiring up a MegaSquirt unit to control throttle body injection on my ’65 Econoline pickup with a 240 ci straight six engine. Once I get it running good, I plan to add a small remote turbo downstream in the exhaust system with the goal of horsepower in the range of 150-200 ...

"Best" manual trans for use with a 240 ci six

I'm trying to decide on a manual trans for my 1965 Econoline pickup with the 240ci engine with the V8 bell. I want one with a synchronized first gear. Overdrive would be nice but not critical. I would like one that is a fairly easy swap for the existing non-synchro 3 on the tree I have now. All advi...
