What injectors are being run?

Many of those older style have issues with heat. There is also the possibility of injector driver overheat, depending on what injector ohm range, how they're wired and how they're driven.

FWIW, it will not stay cool without a shroud and with A/C. Been there, even with oversized V8 radiator.

Make sure the clutch is operational. It should be locked up solid when hot.

I haven't followed this from the beginning, but question the cam choice for a low rpm field truck with 2.73 gears. I agree with going back to the stock rockers. Looks to me like it could just be an adapter plate from the LS head flange to the SBF primary flanges it looks like we're used to make up the header.

Look for a starter for a 96 F150 with a 4.9L 6cly as an example. Manual starter if yours is manual, automatic if yours is automatic.

You WILL need to change the wiring slightly from stock, but it isn't that hard to do and the stock fender solenoid and stock starter cable can be reused.

Nah, I'd say definitely a 240 vs 300 peaking HP at 4k and torque at 2200rpm. 300 is peak torque below 2k, HP 3400 give or take some.

Since you have a mechanical secondary, do you have a primary and secondary power valves? If so, they also sell boost only power valves that can help with tuning the fuel curve. Sounds like your fuel pressure may be referenced to manifold pressure below the throttle blades? It needs to be referenced above the carb, in the hat.

Any standard metal timing gear set will work for basic for your basic preventative maintenance goal, but it isn't a basic easy task in my opinion. Add a timing cover gasket and tappet/lifter cover gasket set to your list. Since you will have it out, replace the rear main and front timing cover seal.
