I have a 250 building for drag race only, stock large cleaned up exhaust manifold with a j pipe directly into the turbo, make that connection as short as possible. Plan to run 10 lbs boost max. Will be a scalded dog runner. Good luck. Randy

I have the same problem with my 65 200, rebuilt 1100 carb. I can not get it started unless I use starting fluid, it is ok for driving, let it sit for a few hours and starting fluid all over again. I am ready for a change, any one have good luck with the Chinese Carters, installing and tuning?

I have a good 62 Ranchero fuel tank just sitting, it measures 6 hi, 33 long and 24 1/2 wide. Hope this helps, it is available if you need it.

I am using a 68 Mustang recurved distributor, all 6 spark plugs are light brown. I use 1 range colder plugs in number 1 and six cylinders. I appreciated all the responses.

I have a 65 Rancher and we pulled the tank and relocated the filler neck to come up just above the tank with a trap door cut into the bed. Works really well , old cap was affixed to the original twist lock. I can get a full 20 gallons of fuel and not spill a drop and a clean fender. Not cheap to do ...

I believe it was 1/8th inch tubing, no mounts just cut and formed the tube stock to the frame and welded it in place. Nice and strong now. Good luck

On my 62 Ranchero I purchased 2 6 foot 1 by 2 inch thick wall tubing and we cut and welded them to the frame. There is a zig zag . This system seems to work well and at a much lower cost.

My 65 Ranchero has the same problem , if I go a few day without starting the engine it takes quite a while to fire it up.

As you found out the only way to get the trim off is to cut the rubber and replace it with new. I have been thru this 2 times.

My guess is a 63 170 has the small dizzy shaft hole, and your dizzy has a 5/16ths shaft. I have read here where guys have enlarged the hole for fit. I had a 64 Fairlane with an early 200 with the small 1/4 shaft , later 68 distributor would not fit. Good luck

I went thru this upgrading my early 62 to later control arm and tie rod ends. I had the ball joint opening on the spindles machined out , did not need much removed. Should work just fine.

Powerband, nice work, I am in the middle of building a 250, log head for drag racing only. On my 69 head all porting is done and we cut out a 2 inch section between 2&3 and 4&5, welded them up and fabed a 2 inch square log with 3 inputs to the log. I have a full 2 barrel Holley plate screwed...

I spent about 50 hours on my 250 headwork. Took lots of material off. To do it right for maximum flow that's what it takes.

As I said before check out the FI Tech fuel injection system, new out. Their prices range from $795 up . I checked with tech support and their answer is their system should work well with a 250 -6.

Take a look at FI Tech, Riverside Calif. New fuel injection company reasonabley priced . This is throttle body injection. Good luck.

A 4 into 2 adapter plate, will work , also the FI system will slow down the fuel at lower rpms . I have an email into FI Tech to see what they have to say. I am building a 250 pure drag motor , turbocharged on E-85. I have no idea if their system can work under this situation.

1 more thing the aluminum adapter actually bolts to a steel adapter that is welded to the new log.

David , I forgot to add, I got the 2 barrel adapter from Will in Tucson and had it welded to my new log. I will run a 500 cfm Holley e-85 carb.

From what I have been told, the Melling pump for the 250 works well and does the job, I will be using one one my 250 race engine.

I had a 64 Fairlane with a 200 , 5 freeze plug engine and a 1/4 inch dizzy shaft. Yes Ford did make some of these.

Yes the 1.84 will fit, 1.88 max. I do not need hardened seats as I will be running E-85. SI was very specific about the 1.84 valves , I just received them 2 weeks ago. Keep the intakes rough but eliminate casting flashings if there are any. Polish the exhaust very smooth. Take the high spots off the combustion chamber. I am doing my 1st head ,cast iron, lots of work. I have about 40 hours into it already and not done yet. Good luck.
