Update

Took it out on the highway today and it did well. Here’s a picture of it while going up a slite hill and the outside temperature was 93*

The new water pump was made out of aluminum, which was a surprise to me. It had the name Gateson it and I got it from NAPA.

Re: Operating temperature

Update I ended up getting a new three row radiator, new thermostat, new water pump and sending unit. I took it for a little drive around town and it did well. Definitely running cooler, but not staying steady on the gauge. My next step is taking it for a run on the highway and see what happens. I’m ...

The oil does seem to have a bit of a gas smell to it. Should I go ahead and get a new pump and see what happens or is there some electrical diagnosis I can do first? Okay here’s my symptoms While driving down the road the engine dies. If I let off the gas pedal it will idle fine. If I stay on the gas it surges with big gaps between each surge. Not trying to gloat, but thought I would show you guys a option for making your old air cleaner work on a Weber.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but I put a 32/36 on my 170. I also used a wide band AFR gauge. It was hard to tune even with the AFR gauge. I would make one small jet change and it would throw everything off.

I didn't run it hard so I didn't get a full reading on whether the carb was acting correct. When the car is sitting on a level surface, the carburetor looks level. I was planning on putting a little rake in the stance so that should help don't you think?
