I have a chance to get a good deal on a set of 1996 ford efi pistons. My engine runs fine though, I had planned on picking up a used short block but I was curious what a bore you guys have done for a running engine? Hate to bring this from the dead but has anyone done the upgrade? I might add this to my parts list when i go to yards. I'm about to pick up lightning wheels. Already have an f250 swaybar setup to install. Hydroboost unit on the ready. This would be a nice additional upgrade.

If its just your brake booster you are worried about, add a hydroboost. That's what I put in my 78 f150 when I started putting in the 7.3l turbo IDI. Modified one from an astrovan. Since the climate control doesnt use vacuum, I don't have a vacuum system at all on this truck anymore.

Also on the electric fuel pump. When I get a car that has been sitting up for a long time I normally bring one and pump out the tank. Put new fuel in it, then pump it through the fuel lines till its pretty clean. Then I'll temporarily hook it up in the engine bay just to get it home. I wouldn't trus...

Yeah every 80-96 I've picked up got new ball joints, radius arm bushings, and i beam bushings. All poly. They all seem wrecked.

I will try to source a cam with decent lift without overlaps to help with boost. It is an efi head with the pockets cut out for hardened exhaust seats, without smog ports, and with a thicker deck.

Oh I guess I might have forgotten to put the most important part. The engine will have some form of forced induction. It will probably be turbo as I've enjoyed all of my turbo vehicles and I honestly don't want to deal with a supercharger.

I emailed them. Once I'm certain it'll work for me I'll probably pull the trigger on it. Can't wait to buy a wide band and get er going. I think I'm going to put it in my glove box along with an electronic fuel pressure gauge.

I ended up using a larger 3g big body alternator which used different holes and an overdrive pulley and it all fits fine now. I have 140 amp 3g alternator and my air pump is out of the way.

I've bought a bunch of OEM stuff on ebay lately from dealers dumping inventory. I'm sure they are fine. I have those in my shopping cart now along with a new harmonic balancer.

How about a weak ground or positive lead. Check the resistance on the wire and see what happens. Poor voltage can kill them too.

Maybe put a frame mounted walbro pump in. I know the 4.9l efi pump has to strain more than on other engines because the fuel pressure regulator is set higher. Maybe get a racing style pump that is designed for high pressures.

So can I just get ujoint end to replace the slip/ujoint section of my existing driveshaft or is the setup completely different? I just had my driveshaft balanced after I replaced all of the ujoints with spicer and I really dont want to replace the whole thing but I do want a zf5.

I bought a bigger 3g alternator that should use the outer bolt holes. I'm going to install it this weekend along with a new front caliper, brake lines and russell speed bleeders.

You could also get a late model setup with a serpentine belt eh? Almost all of them had ac. Plus I prefer serpentine setups. You could get one from a van and get a saginaw power steering pump as well.

My walker y pipe was great but others have said they needed to port out the actual Y because it wasn't done from the factory. I will say my fitment was perfect and had zero issues. There is a guy on eBay now selling NEW OEM EFI manifolds for less than 100 for the set. I started to buy a set to port a little and have coated for my build. I'm also in favor of just building a little Y pipe for a turbo setup.
