Re: Adjustable Vacuum Canistor for 300 4.9L

Most of the single vacuum advances in the late 70's early 80's had a adjustment feature. If you go thru the vacuum tube connector with a 1/8 Allen wrench you will find it. Clockwise to tighten spring and counterclockwise to loosen. Or clockwise for less advance and counter clockwise for more advance.

I used to do SBC core holes in the cylinder block deck with 1 inch plugs with a 1/4 hole in them to control water flow. I don't see why you can't if you have the proper tap and go slow.

You will probably find that on cold start up with a manual gauge hooked up that you will have over 90 psi of oil pressure. A standard oil filter shell is thin and can not stand that amount of pressure. only a HP racing type filter will. I have personally seen this many times on Ford FE engines. The ...

You are correct _ you can verify with a manual oil pressure gauge on cold start up.
That's when oil is the thickest and pressure rises the most.

Check the roll pin holding the distributor gear to the shaft. They can shear letting the spear move on the shaft and eventually just spin. I have seen this many times and you can put anew pin into fix. I have put a smaller diameter pin inside the main pin to enforce.

A vehicle will pull to the side with the least amount of castor. I would think that you would want to have about a 1/4 degree difference.
Ford specs are +3 1/4 minimum to 4 3/4 maximum with a spread of no more than 1 degree at proper ride height.

hook your voltmeter to the purple and orange leads out of the distributor and crank over, it should generate aprox .5 volt. If it does then distributor is working. In that case if wiring between dist and module is good I would substitute a known good module.

Yes they made both after 1970. Pump mount bell housings have 8 bolts and case mount has 5 bolts, I personally have had no problems with either. However beware that you don’t get a C5, they had a lockup converter that gave lots of problems. The converter and bellhousing a roughly about an inch deeper.
