Re: Custom 4bbl intaie

Its going to get tig welded to finish, and the guy doing it is certified for aluminum hull work on our high speed ferries. I'm not to worried about it leaking. Those were quick spool-o-matic passes so I could get some measurements.

Re: Custom 4bbl intaie

I was thinking about a 2x2 setup, but I already have a 4bbl carb. Haven't measured the final side dimension yet, im waiting for the guy doing the welding to tack it up after work tomorrow to shear the last piece of diamond plate. The bottoms 1/4" alum plate, with 3/8" thick reinforcing pie...

Started this intake about 2 weeks ago. Prepping for well so hopefully it will be done this weekend. More updates to come

Re: Polished intake

You dont polish intakes, you port them. Unless you've done major headwork there's no reason to port the intake either, it more than likely flows better than the intake ports in the head.

Re: Has anyone successfully swapped to a cam sensor?

I think the 96 MAF equipped trucks were essentially cam sensors, I may be mistaken but I recall the ignition was computer controlled, and the distributor shaft was used as a sensor.

How long between pulls? I've watched turbo cars pull harder after the first pull, before they got hot enough to need to cool down after multiple pulls.

Re: Constant tick -- not ping, not a knock...

My original log exhaust manifold had a hole near the linkage for the card heat. Switched to efi manifolds and it was gone. Stick your hand around ( not on) the card heat spring while running. You'll feel the leak if there's a hole.

It depends on the shop you choose to do the work. I've been quoted 1500-2500 for oversized valves, port/polish, roller rockers, hardened seats, seals and springs. 3 diffent shops, 3 different prices. Shops r pricey around here...

Re: My first 300. Could use some insight.

Whats the ranger trim btw? I had a 99 3.0 5sp 4x4 with 3in body lift and 33x10.5 ats. I'd do terrible things to get another, but I can't justify the cost. I bought mine for $450 and put under 1000 into it and it is honestly the best ride I ever owned. Got totaled in my driveway by a distracted 17yo ...

Re: My first 300. Could use some insight.

No problems, per se, other than drivability. If you have the t170 trans with high (numerically low) rear gears, then yes, big tires suck. I'm planning on smaller tires when the bfg's r shot. I cruise around 1800rpm at 80mph (speedo indicated accuracy unknown) highway in od, and downshift for hills. ...

Re: My first 300. Could use some insight.

I have the same gearing issues with mine. The 2.75 rear gears are terrible with any tire size over stock, which for mine was 26.5x6r15. They are no longer available at an affordable price. With the 31x10.5 rears I can't use OD much below 75, and my head has a fresh gasket and valve job. Smaller tire...

Re: Ford 300 build for economy, not necesarily power

I've had the yfa on my 1980 f100 ice up to the point it stalled at idle, or whenever I disengaged the clutch with the factory manifolds. Given it was snowing so the ambient humidity was 100%. It was never a problem with cold, clear skies. You can plumb the offy manifold for heat with an adaptor plat...

Re: DIY - Best Harmonic Damper Puller. Ever.

I used a standard 3 bolt puller and an impact gun. Just put in a bolt longer than the damper so u dont mash the threads, with a center drilled the puller doesn't slip.

Re: Permanent 300 Six Cyl Head CFM solutions- A Work in Progress

I've already beefed up the top with arp studs and a 1024 felpro gasket, and I've heard many stories of the stock bottom end and holding up to years of 25psi 1/4 mile passes. However I imagine that's with a 8/8.5-1 static compression bottom end. This head would be closer to 9.5-1 with the stock bott...

Re: Permanent 300 Six Cyl Head CFM solutions- A Work in Progress

Second phase is rebuilt bottom end, using 240 rods on the 300 crank. That's easy to manage with custom pistons. Not for a low compression turbocharger combination. The piston CH is only 1.2" leaving very little room above the rod small end for a deep dish. The piston pin is up into the ring pa...

I'm sure it's here somewhere but at what depression are these heads being flowed at? I'm trying to crunch some numbers. And while all this progress is great, I'm having a hard time getting the static compression below 9-1 with that chamber volume. All good and great for n/a however for forced induc...
