Re: Interesting debate

Update: Well, I didn't end up with the 1963 Mercury Monterey...although I think it is still there so it might be an option in the future. Instead, I wound up buying this: 1957 Jeep FC170 (Titled as a 1959 for reason below) 226 cu in straight flathead six cylinder (Continental?) 3 speed manual tranny...

Re: "Something always leaking"

There is a saying in the Jeep world:

If it's not leaking...it's empty!

Re: Exhaust size and muffler type

I'm running the original 200 cu in straight six in my 1964 Mercury Comet. Unmodified as far as I know with the exception of a DUI distributor. The original exhaust manifold had split into three pieces (cylinders 5 and 6 had pulled away from the rest. Typical.). So, when I replaced the exhaust manifo...

Re: 64-1/2 Mustang Automatic

Your post didn't specifically say C4 so I am going to assume you are talking about the Ford-O-Matic auto transmissions. My 1964 Mercury Comet has the 200 cu. in. straight six (same as the 170) with the two speed Merc-O-Matic automatic which is a brother to the Ford-O-Matic. This is the only car I ow...

Re: 200 Tuning help needed

My situation is a little different but I will try to be helpful at least. The 200 in my 1964 Mercury Comet has a Holley 1940 with the Spark Control Valve. In the long run, I ended up putting in a DUI distributor that seems to work really well. This required me to switch from the SCV to manifold vacu...

Re: Daily driver questions

I drive my 1964 Mercury Comet with the 200 cu. in. and Merc-O-Matic 2 speed auto tranny almost every single day. In fact, it is the only car I own. Daily average is 5-10 miles city driving depending on what I have going on. No problem whatsoever. The only suggestion I have is to drive defensively. Y...

Re: Interesting debate

My neighbor says that if I have two Mercury's he is going to start calling me 20 cent. A commemorative tribute to the Mercury dimes minted from 1916 to 1945.

Interesting debate

I wanted to throw this out to everyone because it has garnered some rather interesting responses. I currently own a 1964 Mercury Comet. Which is a good old car that I really like. I am also considering trying to get ahold of a 1963 Mercury Monterey with the Breezeway window. So. The big question is ...

Re: 200 I-6 with Holley 1940 carb

Thanks for the information. I've actually had pretty good luck with the Holley 1940, although it does need to be rebuilt simply due to age and the ethanol content of todays gas as opposed to 1964 gas. The major problem I had was with the Load-O-Matic. I was never sure what exactly the problem was bu...

200 I-6 with Holley 1940 carb

Please help me with a super frustrating problem that I can't seem to find anywhere else. A 200 cu. in. straight six resides in my 1964 Mercury Comet which is a brother to the Ford Falcon. This engine originally used the hunk-of-junk known as the Autolite 1100 coupled to the even-bigger-hunk-of-junk ...
