Re: Help me pick a cam

I was looking at the 131h in the FAQ, you think it will have any negative effect on off idle torque?

I've got a 1.21 2150 and a 275cfm Holley that I'm going to rebuild and play with. Think I should install my current intake and exhaust for break in, so I know it will fire up and run?

Help me pick a cam

I've been reading the FAQ till my eyes get blurry and I know enough to know, I don't know enough. I picked up 95 engine to replace the late 70s engine in my Bronco. The plan was to clean it up, throw some gaskets in it and put it in with an Offy C, 2bbl and HD manifold. Now I'm thinking I should pro...

Re: Exhaust Manifolds: Gasket or no Gasket? + Harmonic Dampers

When I get ready to install my offy and HD manifolds, since I'll need them planed once they're bolted together, I'm going to see how much the machine shop will charge to mill the exhaust mounting flanges to match the intake.

Do you have them run to a temp switch or just an on/off? If a temp switch, what are you running and what temp do you have them switching on and off?

Re: Electric Fuel Pump for Carbed applications?

I was looking at something like this https://www.amazon.com/Carter-P90091-Electric-Fuel-Pump/dp/B07BBDSZP1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=carter+P90091&qid=1593388589&sr=8-1 I think one application is an early 80s carbed S10 with the 1.9l. The problem is they're rated 2.5-7 psi and I'm...

Re: Temperature sensor/gauge?

I may go to a 180 degree stat, I've always run a 195. I think a coolant flush wouldn't hurt but I'll get a spare heater core before I do that. Electric fans are in the list eventually but not in the budget for a while. My Bronco is running a little lean and I don't think that's helping the situation...

Electric Fuel Pump for Carbed applications?

I believe the cam eccentric on my 300 is worn, as I'm having issues with fuel supply and think it's part of my truck running lean. New mechanical pump didn't help. Since I'm prepping to swap an efi block, I'm looking at electric pumps, regulators, etc. Any suggestions on pump and regulator selection...

Re: 240/300 Log Intake 1bbl to 2bbl Modification

Agreed, looks like great work. I'm looking forward to your test results, im ordering rebuild kits for a similar test between a 2300 and 2150 1.21, although my 2300 is an older 275cfm version and I picked up a damaged offy C intake cheap that I'm repairing. I'm going to use an HD exhaust manifold and...

The couple of boats of that style I've been in had pretty tight engine compartments. Is there enough room for an inline?

Re: Carb Choice? It's different than the rest, no really!

I think I'll take your advice and just rebuild them both. If nothing else, it'll be a fun experiment. Out of curiosity, have you ever swapped a 2150 to a manual choke? I've got one set up on my carter and like the simplicity.

Re: Temperature sensor/gauge?

I haven't really noticed, between the exhaust and road noise, it's hard to tell. It's been on there for maybe 10k miles but then again, I've had newer parts fail.

Re: Carb Choice? It's different than the rest, no really!

Think the 1.21 is too much for a stock engine? They're about 350cfm if i remember right. At 350cfm, I feel like a holley 390cfm 4bbl would deliver comparable power and better mileage?

Carb Choice? It's different than the rest, no really!

Well, only a little different.

I have a couple of 1.21 2150's and was planning on rebuilding one for my Offy C/HD manifold swap. However, I found an older Holley 2300 in my carb pile and it lists as a 275cfm off a late 60s IH 266 V8. So now I'm not sure which to try? Any thoughts?

I do have a shroud and recovery tank. Although only about half the fan is covered and I think about 3/4 is supposed to be in the shroud. I may try to shim the shroud back a bit.

Re: Temperature sensor/gauge?

While we're on the subject, what's an acceptable max temp? It was 80-85 degrees yesterday and on some longer highway climbs, I was hitting 210 degrees. Doesn't usually run more than 195-200.

Quick Flex plate Questions

Were there any changes to the flex plates over the years? Will a carbed flex plate work on an EFI engine? Lastly, I saw a thread that mentioned that later plates were reinforced, are they still available new or is there an aftermarket option?

Re: Temperature sensor/gauge?

We're the gauges, real gauges back then? I know the temp gauge in the 80+ trucks are just an idiot light with a needle but i don't know when that started. Id check it with another gauge. Even just a cheap one from the local parts store.

I know this is an older thread but did you get your swap done? If you can find a 80-82 or 83 rig at the JY, the harness is plug and play. I did the same and then got a new dizzy from Napa. BTW, I'm in Olympia too, let me know if you have any questions.

Ticking from fuel pump?

Anyone ever had a mechanical fuel pump make a ticking sound like a lifter tick? It was real loud on start up and then quoted down quickly. I can't find my stethoscope but with my ear to a screw driver, I only hear it on the fuel pump and I can feel it on the fuel hard line from the pump. Nothing on ...

Awesome, maybe when it gets here, I'll just take it in and see what we can find. What's the steel ring for, is it a seal like the exhaust "donut" on a standard manifold?

Could anyone tell me the bolt spacing for the HD flange or have a source for the exhaust side flange and gasket? I have a manifold on its way and want to order one in case the shop doesn't have one that will work.
Thanks!

Hi there from Washington state!

Been lurking for a long time, finally registered. I've got an 85 Bronco with a 300 that's outlasted 3 other trucks. Also have a 65 F250 that needs a new 300.
