it would be hard to change the a4ld bellhousing to a c3 bellhousing if they aren't removable. :duh: they are removable.i understand the passages in the bellhousing need to be modified.

if it were me id try to find a cheep four speed to replace the three speed.as far as i know it should bolt in other than needing the driveshaft shortened.or a od four speed which will give you your gear ratios plus overdrive.when i have to replace a part i always like to upgrade. :)

Sweet car! I'm with FalconSedanDelivery on a 250 vs a 200 if you start from scratch. If you're going trip carbs on a CI head, were you thinking side drafts? Anyone know if hood clearance would even come into play(250, side-drafts)? if you want to stay with a 200 i would still attempt to find a 1981...

did you read my reply to your ad in the parts section?i have a yoke id sell but i have no way to know if it will fit your car.it came from a 62 econoline with a 170 and three speed.do you know the outside diameter of your yoke or the size of your ujoint?

get the falcon handbook.it has lot of info on these engines and which parts work best.it also details swapping other transmissons in.the falcon is very simular to the mustangs.it won't answer every question but i have a good understanding of the small six from it.i reference it about once a week.it ...

that engine should have the desirable 3/4 v8 bolt pattern.see if the starter is below the oil pan rail.btw it might be a 250.

all ford sixes after 1967 have the 3.03 three speed.i bought the 'stuff'from a 1970 maverick so i can swap in a toploader four speed.it has the flat very heavy flywheel.the disc was worn into the rivits so i left it.i assume it was a nine inch clutch.

concider going with a aod instead of the c4.it will bolt to a 250.you will need a different bellhousing and torque converter to bolt your c4 to a 250.

i have a 67 bellhousing coming so i can bolt up my toploader od trans.is there any combination of parts that will allow me to keep my 8.5 flywheel annd pressure plate and use the 67 up pilot bearing and throwout bearing?if so what starter would work?i know i need a different clutch disc.

the c4 won't change the reving unless the other transmission is slipping.however a c4 has a lower first gear so you can swap a better rear gear in and not lose any acceleration.

you can also bolt a piece of metal across the cylinder and use a feeler guage to find tdc.you will have to decide which guage.

The pressure plate is dagenham only but the clutch plate itsself is the same one as the 2.77 trans IIRC. The gears are defineately funky I agree. The dagenham is a close ratio transmission and the standard gears for the rear from Ford when that trans was ordered was 3.20 ratio. It doesnt make the 2...

the daganham has some funky gearing.to me the second gear is too close to the first gear.i usally skip second unless im carrying extra weight.

true.but since you will have the valves done on the new head you can have it cut to bring the compression back up at the same time.i have a 1978 head on my 170.

an upgrade you could do is if you have to pull the head,a 170 head has bigger ports and valves.a late 70s 200/250 head has much bigger ports and valves but might be a little much for a 144.
