A friend gave me a mehanical secondaries Holley 450 cfm 4360 carb and adaptor plate so I will have a go at tuning and getting the feel driving a carb with direct hook up compared to a Holley 550 cfm vacume secondaries.The price was right.Don't know what it came off but it looks in very good shape.

I like the Qjet carbs.I have used them in the past and still have a couple in the cupboard.I found the older ones easier to tune with the exposed idle jet screws.They also were more progressive bringing the timing in. The small primaries in a quadrajet carb are a real asset for good drivability to pull hard at low rpm.

I have 352 V8 pistons .030 and have no problems with piston skirt clearances.I think the pistons for 352,360,and 390 are the same design just different bore size.

Update....I am back in action now.Playing catch up so it will be a while yet before I can get to my own projects.My thumb is still pretty tender and I favour it quite a bit.At least I can ride my bike now.

Just an idea,maybe to get you by you could use a few sheet metal screws and a large washer on the screws and force the screws into the rubber piece in the middle of the harmonic balancer to keep the outer ring from damaging something.

I suppose with the ability to copy an actual head or block etc. it might be possible to mix and match various designs and place the best combustion chambers, ports,valve angles,headbolt locations,cylinder bore centers,cam locations,main bolt girddles , etc. into one head and block to work in harmony...

I am using Speed Pro rings.I figured they must know more about the correct gap to use on their rings than I do with my limited engine rebuilds compared to them.Too have some kind of over lapping or spiral wound gapless rings would seem like a better way to seal the compression and keep it above the ...

I used bolts on the mains. The rings were mostly a bit large gaps by a few thou but it was good to check all the rings because there were some that were definately too tight.Maybe they could be used but I didn't want to take a chance.She might explain herself pulling a long hill with a load when you...

Next will probably be installation of the camshaft,timing gears,oil pump and oil pan.That will close up the bottom end.
I took on a small job that will take me a couple of weeks so this engine will have to sit for a while.

A much better choice than the Mercruiser block is the Mopar aluminum midget blocks. Peto and Mudge built a Comp Eliminator inliner from 3-and-a-half cylinders out of one and two-and-a-half cylinders out of t'other. If you have another carb you could try that to see if the engine will run for you.There is no point washing your cylinders down with gas.

If you want an overhead cam engine maybe you could cut and weld Fords SOHC V10 aluminum heads if the bolt and bore spacing is on and adapt it on a 300-6.

Bubba22349,I tried boring a pin but it was pretty slow.It surprised me how hard they are compared to the stock pins.I need to make up a small carbide boring bar.I think I will leave them alone but still want to try boring a pin just to see if I can do it.

Thanks for the kind words yesterday you guys. I evened the weights of the pistons and chamfered the top edges and took care of the sharp edges in the valve relief areas too.Polished the piston heads a bit as well. After milling a 12CC dish .090 deep in the rest of the pistons and juggling the heaviest wrist pin with the lightest piston I found a weight difference from the heaviest to the lightest of 2.3 grams.

The actual offset from pin center to piston skirt is usually .060" So if there was .120" difference in readings from one side to the other you have to split the difference. The pin offset is how far the pin center is off from the piston center, the key word being CENTER or 1/2 the diamete...

I went out to the shop and measured the offset on the stock piston @ .120" and the 352 piston @ .130".This was done using a telescopic gauge from the pin to the inside casting wall of the pistons.
There is a difference.What does this mean?
