If you're REALLY lucky,there is a reverse star washer with little fingers towards the shaft keeping the shaft in.But it's a crap shoot usually.
I put it back on when I find one,it helps later I find,since I'm always piddling with something.

I think you just killed that family of field mice living in your can muffler.How far/fast could you sprint if your nose and mouth were plugged?Cut the can off,visually look for a kink in what's left.
Also sounds a little like you need to see if dashpot is moving the advance.

Really not enough info to work off of.So,what trans,rear end ratio,tire size?
Also,you do know that some trucks were farm trucks and were geared to pull start farm equipment and not go to church back then.

I highly recommend using comp cams viton valve seals.#520-16.If you are mechanicly inclined,you can do it yourself by using
C.C. cutter and a slow drill.
I just got so annoyed watching those umbrella seals flopping up and down,doing nothing.

When I have pulley alignment issues on my small six or my FE's,I use moroso 64035 pulley shim kit.I had to use most of 2 kits to get the 2
groove pulley from CI to line up to suit me,and longer bolts also.
