Re: Misc vacuum routing, fast idle cam, and idle air bleed ?'s!

Yes, it's all there. And I always tell people to go back and verify top dead centre, and true and accurate base timing before they move on to mess with the carburetion system. Are you 100% positive about your timing yet?

Re: Desperate Help...

I say start all over, turn the engine around to actual TDC, verify timing properly, then move on. Also, after that, make sure the magnetic pickup is pushed all the way down on the dizzy shaft, and that the pertronix unit is flush and not tilted where you tightened it down. =)

Re: '66 200 I6 Gearhead Expert advice needed

I think everyone's pointing you on the right track. SCVs don't really go bad in my opinion. The reason they were telling you to make sure it's on the compression stroke is because that's the stroke that it needs to fire on to be in time. My next question is... where is the vacuum line from the distr...

Re: Can I use this carb?

You don't have to plug the SCV. As long as there's no vacuum line going to the ported vacuum hole on the carb, the SCV doesn't do anything. And best manifold vacuum is on the intake, where you would have a line going to the modulator on the trans. Tee it off. =P

Yes, you just can't use a different carb other than that with the load-o distributor, the reason being that the load-o dizzy needs the SCV's signal to properly advance. Just plug the vacuum port on the side of the carb (ported vacuum) and run the distributor's vacuum directly to the manifold as is n...

When you adjust the valves, turn the fast idle screw out until the engine is BARELY idling. Then it will be easy, while the engine is running super slow.

Take the number one plug out of the spark plug hole. Turn the engine around until it is on the compression stroke (you will feel air push out of the cylinder, and that means that both valves are closed). Then put a pencil in the spark plug hole, rubber side down, and watch the pencil move to the top...

Spray some carb cleaner on the vacuum lines (there aren't many) and around the base of the carb. If you don't find it by the meeting, I'll help you out. I'm gonna be there to wrench on other people's cars, not my own! =)

When you find the leak, the engine will rev up.
