Check with a machine shop on getting the flywheel 'turned'. That might be some $ less than a new one.

Looks like you are running headers? If so, that is where the heat is coming from. The water heat to the manifold would not be the problem as it runs the same thermostat controlled temp as the coolant in the engine and if anything should help.

Check the exhaust manifold for cracks and the 'donut' gasket where the manifold hooks to the exhaust pipe. These things can cause a 'ticking' noise. Might check down stream in the exhaust system for a blockage while you are at it. If the Cat has not been changed it is probably well overdue.

Fabricating one is fairly simple...a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 aluminum drilled and tapped for hose barbs or welded in and bolted to the bottom of the manifold, hook-up is inline with a heater hose and you are good to go. Do a search for photos...they have been posted many times here and on the FTE Forum.

I wouldn't worry about a shroud. The one that came on my truck has been long gone for years and it has never had a heating problem. It wasn't really a shroud so much as it was a curved guard across the top of the radiator.

Sounds like the float needle valve and seat might be leaking or there is something else in the carb leaking. While it is not common it isn't rare either...sometimes the pump develops a leak and gas goes into the crankcase...not good!
