Re: 600 Edelbrock carb

The stock plugs and settings are a good starting place. Now that you're in the realm of modified engines it comes down to what your engine 'likes', your manner of driving, etc. Do some experimenting, driving, adjusting, etc.

Re: Chevy valves instead of Ford ones!

Why Chevy valves?

Because they readily work for some simple performance upgrades. All parts are not necessarily exclusive to a particular automaker. Many components the various automakers use come out of the same hole in the ground, so to speak.

It seems like this quandary is popular when it comes to carb size on these engines. Think of a 4v carb as a 2v with an auxiliary power circuit. Unless you go around with your foot in the throttle all of the time the engine will never see the carb secondaries opening and then only start to open betwe...

Looks like you are running headers? If so, that is where the heat is coming from. The water heat to the manifold would not be the problem as it runs the same thermostat controlled temp as the coolant in the engine and if anything should help.

Check the exhaust manifold for cracks and the 'donut' gasket where the manifold hooks to the exhaust pipe. These things can cause a 'ticking' noise. Might check down stream in the exhaust system for a blockage while you are at it. If the Cat has not been changed it is probably well overdue.

Try your question there in the small block Forum. The difference between the SB and BB (240/300) is the SB's intake manifold is integral with the head. They are separate on the BB.
