The best mileage at 55-62 has been my experience with several vehicles at about 1800-2000 rpm. The last big truck I drove before retiring had 2.73 rears and a 13 speed .74 OD tranny behind a 565 hp Cummins would not cruise well at all at 55 in OD but did just fine in direct.

All the systems on the EFI computer controlled engine have to be working properly for the engine to run properly. If you remove the smog equipment and the sensors that go with them you most likely will be replacing them with a lot of grief.

If you are of a mind to rebuild yourself, find a rebuild-able engine, rebuild it and when you are ready, swap the engines out. That way you still have your daily driver and will get a new engine too. How do you know you have an oil temperature problem? Oil temp gauge? Oil analysis? An oil analysis indicating "thermal breakdown" would show there is a problem. Otherwise you might be trying to fix something that isn't broken.

IIRC, David "The Wizard" Vizard recommended substituting 1 qt of synthetic in one's regular oil to make an inexpensive blend.

That may be a common seasonal occurrence caused by cold starts and short trips. A leak-down test on the cooling system might help narrow the probabilities for the blow-by and coolant loss problem.

Billions of miles and hours racked up on these engines and I have yet to see any report of an engine failure, much less a catastrophic failure due to the said fuel distribution problem. In a high-performance engine, this would be a concern.

The stock plugs and settings are a good starting place. Now that you're in the realm of modified engines it comes down to what your engine 'likes', your manner of driving, etc. Do some experimenting, driving, adjusting, etc.

Why Chevy valves?

Because they readily work for some simple performance upgrades. All parts are not necessarily exclusive to a particular automaker. Many components the various automakers use come out of the same hole in the ground, so to speak.

There are probably thousands of these set-ups out and about and I have yet to see anyone post a problem with leaks in the manner that you describe. My own experience of over 8 years with this set-up on my own engine is I have yet to see so much as a drop of coolant loss. Period.

A 221 Ford is a V8. This is an I6 Forum. But to answer your question, It depends. Timing should be whatever your engine likes plus factor in your manner of driving and with some trial and retrial, you will get there.

The odometer may have turned over and could actually be 185K miles. I don't think there is much of a way to determine that. Tune up, clean up and enjoy the ride.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no 4v-2v adapter for the Offy DP. As old28racer says, the DP is for a 4v and it is not readily adaptable to a 2v.

Another place to look is the exhaust manifold itself and that may come with problems due to access. I had one that was cracked on the back side between the manifold and block...a real PITA to locate. It stayed that way until I did the rebuild with some mods including an Offy DP intake and the stock ...

That 'tick' might be an exhaust leak. Check the donut gasket between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe. If it is blown out, it might make a ticking noise.
