Maximmum clearance OEM style AC's I've used are Maverick 6 Cyl air cleaners. The lower hoods of later cars needed virtually inverted air cleaners. Perhaps not in your design but the familiar triangular air cleaner can be very close coupled to 2300's ( Edelbrock 'Pro Flo' series). front collector pipe actually overlaps the flywheel / bellhousing by an inch or so. Would require major cutting and welding to make it work. Probably only fit HIGH mount starter position 200's.
