What that will do is tilt your torque curve like a "see saw". Below peak will increase, peak will stay the same and it will fall off faster after peak.

I am 99% positive that installing the cloyes set in the advanced position is "straight up". I say 99% because I did not measure it myself.

I have done this to my truck. It is a nice change. I do find that I have to run 89-91 octane when loaded. Just keep and ear out.

With the cam change:

382 @ 2500
230 hp @ 4000

The graph is showing peak VE at 3500 rpm and 16.8 psi which is 95%

Manifold pressure is 15.7 psi @2000 rpm and peaking just above 16.8 psi at 5,000 rpm

It's not as simple as adding boost, I would need things like flow numbers, surge flow, pressure ratio, intercooler percent and efficiency.

There is a list of turbos to pick from, but I would not know what to pick

Stock valve size is 1.78 and 1.6"

Thank you, that one gets me every time. So when the vacuum drops to zero.. how does the computer know that this new engine wants more fuel? Will the manifold pressure be different?

If it was a carburetor, I would have to up the main jet

That makes sense if the computer stays in open loop. At wot the computer falls back to closed loop, ignoring the o2 sensor and runs off of a fuel table that's programmed in its memory. So if this motor makes more power at say 2,000 rpm... what is telling to computer to add more fuel at wot?

I think this is one of the best ways to build a 300 EFI truck motor, and keep the factory fuel system. Simple, cheap, reliable. If you overlay a late model 302 EFI truck motor it will have more torque throughout the operating range than a late model EFI 300. If you want to amplify the advantage of the higher HP at higher RPMs of the V8 then a gear change could do that too. Having said that, I just like the 300 six. I would ...

Nope. I did the EFI swap back in 2006.

86 was the last year carburetored. I got so dam frustrated trying to keep the original motor running right that converting to EFI was the easiest solution.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried some insulation which helped a lot. I still think my trans is just as noisy as my motor... which seems a bit high.

Probably not from a finance point of view, but there are other benefits. I know the off road guys like it because they can flop their rigs upside down and not spill any fuel... and you can run the rpm's so low you think you stalled out, but nope your still running lol. I don't know how much you can remove off the head before having issues. I don't think there is an exact number, it's more of a "avoid it if you can" type thing.

I know the Efi heads are prone to cracking, but I'm not sure where.

T bodies are cool but I think you would see your best mpgs at around 45 mph. Would increasing the rocker arm ratio increase lift enough to push the valve past the shoulder in the EFI head? Or enough that it would hurt the swirl effect? I remember xctasy talking about a "learn burn" motor.....

It got new syncros and maybe bearings around 130k. It probably has 230k on it now.

I tried the Lucas oil stabilizer and it helped some, but it's still pretty loud.

Avoid the lift kit. It has been my experience that the front suspensions on these trucks do not take modifications well. You will find yourself a frequent customer at the alignment shop. They just don't want to track straight. Further more, there isn't a chassis engineer at these lift kit company's....

I think the big question is... what do you want to do with it?
