two problems...the gear venders unit costs more than my van did and id end up with a one foot long driveshaft. :mrgreen:

i have a 1962 econoline with a 170 with a 1978 head,three speed,and 3.50 rearend.i also have a c4.i want to install the c4 and change the rear ratio to 3.00 so i can more comfortly drive on the interstate..my van supposedly weighs 2600 pounds.it has 26 inch tall tires.if i do this will i lose accell...

i looked into the low gear sets a while ago.it seems like they were pretty expensive plus the cost of rebuilding the c4 to install it.

acording to the falcon handbook some have had muffler shops weld on muffler flanges and used them.its a very useful book.id suggest to get a copy.

the transmissions are mostly the same except the sixes used a 3/4" shorter input shaft with fewer splines.the longer v8 input shaft means its too long to bolt in.some people have swapped in a different input shaft to make it work.im basing the info on my trying to change out my 1962 170 econoli...

if you can find a 81-83 200 it will mostly bolt to an aod transmission.good luck though.i went the four junkyards yesterday looking for a 67-80 bellhousing.

No, but the details on the differences between the C3 and the A4LD bell were relevant. I have to say, I think that it might be easier, more cost effective, and give you more options to simply make an adapter plate to use an AOD. thats one of the reasons i mentioned the 2.8 700r4.its bellhousing is ...

from what i understand the three speed used with the 68 and later 200s is unbreakable by a 200.

true,but with an automatic you can downshift just by pressing down the gas pedal if you need more power.

there is no automatic transmission that will bolt to a 1963 engine that will lower your rpms on the highway.you will need to change your rearend or swap in a 250 or 1981-83 200 that a aod trans will bolt to.

Probably the one that comes with the 2300 engine. I was thinking that I could adapt the 2300 flexplate as well, but I'm not sue what the starter spacing would be like. This won't be a bolt on affair because I don't think there's a combination of parts that will get you there. Need to compare the to...

for most engines you can get clips to deflect the oil back into the engine.on my 429 i cut an old valve cover to adjust the valves.

rebuilding a c4 is fairly cheap considering u can find rebuilt kits on ebay for about a hundred bucks or so. im not sure about the crossmember, but take a measuring tape and measure from the motor mount bolts to the crossmember and vice versa for each engine, if the motor mounts look alike itll fit...

imo the best trans for a 200 is a chevy 700r4 from behind a 2.8 v6.3.06 first gear plus .70 overdrive,can be rebuilt for 500 horsepower if needed.same basic trans from the 305/350 chevy.i bought one to compare with the 200 c4 i have.the torque converter is about the same size.the 700r4 converter sno...

I think you could use a bell housing from a C3 bolted to an A4LD to get a 4spd non-electronic OD transmission for a 200. Finding a 200/C3 bell has been a hunt and not exactly high priority for me right now. ive read this but ive never seen anybody confirm it.it would be great.btw the a4lds were lat...

he has the big bell too.you can use the big bell to bolt in a toploader four speed too.if you use the 1965 stuff someone on this forum will buy the bigger stuff.where are you located?

i don't see any reason to use studs unless your supercharging it.if you use bolts use washers the thickness of the amount that was shaved off the head.

the t56 six speed from forth gen camaros is good for four hundred horsepower and is basically a four speed with two overdrives with the top being .50.1994 up.

someone needs to sell an adapter to a chevy 700r4.they came behind 2.8 camaro v6s and have a 3.06 first gear.they have a smaller bellhousing simular in size to the 200.
