If you want you can, but as Americans find when putting later US 200/250 valves in early pre unleaded, per 1973 heads, they often cut into the exhast water gallery. Not nice.
Unless the head has to look stock, go for a 1977 on head, and save the cash. The valve shrouding on a 144 head would be too much, and you'd have to copy the later 200/250 emissions head pattern. Ford spent big money on upgrading a rather poor flowing, small valved head, into a very good emissions head that just happesn to give great economy and performance on a pre Clean Air Act car or truck.
