Welcome to this forum.

1st, you have to decide if you want to go the adapter route or if you are willing to modify you head so that you can mount the new carb directly to the log. What is the casting code on the head? You'll find it on top of the log behind the carb pad.

If you want to go the adaptor route the advantages are that it is a "bolt-on" process, for the most part. It can be done without removing the head. The down side is that you will lose about 2" of hood clearance and you will likely not see the maximum benefit because of the funnel adapter. You can source adaptors for either Holley/Weber progressive two barrel or a Holley 2300/Autolite 2100 two barrel from Clifford Perfromance in Temecula, CA. Stove Bolt Inc. has both the adaptor and H/W rebuilt carbs, but this requires more adaptation.

The direct mount by modifying the log eliminates the clearance issue and promotes maximum efficiency, but it requires dissassembly to modify

Either option requires adaption linkage or converting to a throttle cable system, tuning and adapting an air cleaner.

Good luck.

I could be more helpful and specific if I knew what head (casting # and carb you are working with now. 170 and 200 heads are virtually the same with a few exceptions, however carbs are different. They appear the sames on the outside, but have different internal deminsions. Depending on what you have there may be some good 1 barrel upgrades.
