Hello all,

I have an opprotunity to get a cylinder head from a 83 Fairmont. Is this a desirable head, the ones with larger valves and bigger log intake? I want a log head to modify for installation on a 68 coupe with a 200 ci engine. Modify---port, polish, direct two barrel adaptor, back cut valves, double springs and 1.6-1 rocker arm. Is this the head I want to start with?

I was just goign to make a new post but figured I could just ask the same here... What is the desirered casting code? I remember a c, 7 and an e? oh and a 0 somewhere right?...lol Thanks, Tommy
,

The casting number is E0BE BB.

E0=80 model---is that correct?

isn't any I6 ford head from 77 and up the right choice? i was not aware that there was a particular casting from this time period that was preferable?

best,

michael

Did the Fairmont's all have 200 I6's or were some 250 I 6's?

I need an oilpan for a 200 for a 66 Bronco and it looks like the Fairmont may work.

Howdy All:

The E0XX casting is a good one.

There are subtle differences between the D7 and the E0. Critical dimensions are the same- Valve size, carb hole, and Chamber volume.

The known differences are- the E0 head has an exhaust port circulation window milled into the side of the intake log, below the carb mounting flange. There are tapped holes on either side so blocking it off is no problem.

There is also reason to believe that the intake tract of the E0 is larger- in the 1,420 cc range. We need to measure more to determine if this is an anomoly or a consistant fact. And we need to determine if the added volume is related to EPA bungs and ports, or useful.

FYI- the D7BE-AB is a flat-top log head. The D5DE-BA is a flat-top log head and may or may not have 1.75" intake valves. The years this head was used were obviously transition to the use of the larger valves.

Any of these heads is a marked improvement over earlier heads.

Adios, David

Hey,

You get a response from both of the Schjeldahl brothers.

You probably need to go look at the head. I focused on the fact that you wanted to do a direct two barrel adapt. So here is what you should look for. The difference between a flattop and a hex log.

The head on the left is a flattop. The one on the right side is a hex. Notice the difference in width where the right head says "order" (part of "firing order") The flattop is easier to add the two barrel directly to the manifold. It can be done with the hex head but that requires a little welding to build up the shoulder. How do we know? Dave has a hex and I havew a flattop - both with a direct two barrel.

And then since I was I teacher, I never miss a chance to teach. For those of you wondering about the difference of the early log head in comparison to the leter head here is another picture.

This is the hex vs a small log.

Good Luck on the project
