I am looking for some Carburetor suggestions for a '65 Mustang 200 Six. It currently has the stock one bbl. I have noticed a few of you have 2 bbl Holleys with adapter plates. I need everything to fit under the stock hood. What kind of air cleaners are you running with the Holley 2bbl, just a standard drop base Holley Air Cleaner? How about linkages to the 2bbl Holley?
The car has a real mild cam and a dual exhaust header. Other than that it is pretty much stock. I am trying to do this on a budget and have been looking at 1bbl replacement carbs at Auto Zone, Holley replacement.

Thanks,
Tim

I just got a rebuilt autolite 2100 2bbl on ebay to go on my 200. Summit sells an adapter for around 30 bucks so that is one option and I dont think that adapter is very tall so you might have less clearance probs than with other adapters. Edelbrock makes a low profile foam aircleaner that I think I will use it is inexpensive too 15$, proform also makes a very low profile drop base cleaner that can be had from summit for 20$

As for a linkage you will need to use a cable throttle&kickdown if you have a auto tranny (does anybody have pics or suggestion for a kickdown, I would be interested to see/hear them.)

Eddie.

What does the Carburetor bolt spacing on the manifold measure?

Thanks,
Tim

For a 65 head I think it would be 2 5/8" I could be wrong though, the safest way to know what you have is to measure.

*edit

I just measured the old carter yf 1bbl that had been on my '72 head and it was 2 5/8" bolt pattern, not sure if the 65 would be the same?

Is it a well built piece? I have had other TransDapt brand stuff in the past that was junk.

I'm running the H/W 5200 w/ a Clifford adapter, and no clearance problems. The carb was $65 rebuilt from Stovebolt, the adapter was also $65, the drop base air cleaner was around $15, linkage parts from my speed shop around $10, and new jets to experiment with were around $10.

Here's a pic:

This is with the stovebolt adapter, which I've since changed for the Clifford for better clearance (no carb adapter needed).

and with the air cleaner:

If you do this or any carb other than the rebulit 1100, you'll need help for your dizzy as well. See the scv sticky.

Generally considered a good time to swap in a Duraspark II

I have it but havn't put it on the engine yet (waiting for my new head) it seems decent enough but is taller then it looks in the picture. I still dont think there will be clearance issues as the air cleaner I have only adds <2inches to carb hight and the autolite 2100 is short. The adapter is very plain and sturdy and it will alow me to line the carb up right, with the linkage pulling in the right direction and the fuel bowl to the front of the car.
