200's inbound

:twisted: I found a guy that's willing to sell me two 200's for $170-some. One was upgraded some to be more of a performance but he said they were having cam bearing problems. Said both engines come with everything except maybe distributors and carburetors.

Seems like eventually a 200 will be going in my '68 :D

It would be a good idea to check casting codes just for general info. Are you planning on using them as cores for a tear down and rebuild? or what?

It is a cheap peek to pull the spark plugs looking for condition, oil, water or whatever.

I'd sure ask more about the "Cam bearing porblems". That is not something you hear very often on our sixes.

Keep us posted on what you find.

According to the seller, one engine ran fine when it was pulled and the other just had those "cam problems" and had 'Good performance parts'

I'm going to grab both, try to get the best engine I can built out of parts from both and if the other doesn't run, I may get it ready for a rebuild.

If I don't have any surprise happenings I'll keep one for a backup engine, though I've thought about selling it.

Edit: I am going to ask him some about them, but I think he did V8 swaps for people and that's how he got them since he actually sells other mustang parts and such so I don't think he won't really know too much about the engines themselves.
 
Any good suggested economic carbs to stick on a 200? I don't really want a sporty or anything carb, main goal being getting the best mileage I can get.
 
OK! I finally picked them up today, when a ratchet is hooked to the bolt on the front they turn over and the one that doesn't have a valve cover I could hear air escaping and going into the cylinders.

I got some kinda tiny 200ci carb and one had a distributor in it. I'll get pictures up later. Does a 'Turned cam bearing' sound bad? That is supposedly what is wrong with the one that was built up with 'performance parts', it also is bored out .40 over I believe
