226/254 flywheel question

I realize the flywheel ring gear for the flat six is different than the eight. With that in mind, are the flywheels the same otherwise? I am wondering if I can use an aftermarket aluminum flat eight fly on a 254/226 by merely changing the gear? Also are there any differences in crank bolts?

Hi, it is my understanding from an old interchange manual (think thats were we found it) that the V8 truck flywheel and flathead six were always the same. So I bought the aluminum V8 flywheel from Speedway Motors,bolted it to my 254 M and used the six starter, and everything works. I think there was ten teeth on the starter, this was two or three years ago.
