I was looking at something on a couple of website's that caught my attention concerning 1-pc crank seals, as follows

FRONT (no trim):
Fel-Pro 470543
National 450446--------Advance Auto Parts, try it ~ $8, OR order on the find.com
Napa NOS19786
Napa NOS19785

REAR (no-trim):
1972 Ford Maverick 200 cid L6 (=> Main diameter = 2.2486” vs. _______“ for 226)

Fel-Pro BS30135
National 5116 ----------Advance Auto Parts, try it
Napa JV730P
Napa NOS204
Ford C9AZ6701B (part)
Ford C9AE6701B (engineering)
(edit - added these)
Detroit 17042
McCord BS167
ROL RS29050
Victor JV730P

REAR (trim-to-fit):
1970 Caddy Deville 472 cid
Fel-Pro BS40012
National 5068
Napa JV600
(edit - added these)
Detroit 17008
McCord BS188
ROL RS29115
Victor JV600

Please notice the 1-pc REAR seal for the 1972 Maverick 200; interesting, but I believe a 2-pc rear seal will be necessary due to the thrust flange - NOT SURE, since both my 226 cranks are with the machinist. I am wondering if any of you may have access to the factory, std main's dia. for the 226, for comparison. ______"

I measured the inside half-diameter of the front (oil pan) and rear seals (aluminum flage w/3 bolt holes) times 2, and have the following diameters; I suspect close to the crank diameter where the seals ride:

REAR = ~ 2.78"

FRONT = ~ 2.22"

If dia comparison's are close, then on the front it might be feasible to insert a 1-pc seal into the rope/seal journal and secure with epoxy or something and not deal with the rope seal. Of course need to investigate both front and rear options for feasible substitution; 2-pc for the rear seems worth pursuing.

Has any reader on here attempted a substitution of 1-pc nitrile seal and/or 2-pc split nitrile seals?

Thanks
