250 rear main seal?

This 250 has been apart before. there is a hole in the cap er block-can't remember which in the seal channel that I understand used to have a pin to keep the rope seal from spinning ?? It is missing now and I put the cap on with the rope type seal without that pin. That going to be a problem? Did this last night and just torqued the caps-didn't go any further so I could go back if I need to do some thing else. Help!
Other thing is-even with the graphite coating and a smear or assembly lube, it seems to really turn stiff-just used to rubber lip seals I guess.

Some engines have had neoprene seals made for them and the pin has to be removed in order to use that type of seal vs. the rope style. Also, many early engines of other brands still only have a rope seal available and never had the pin in their cap and didn't have problems with them spinning, so I think you'll be fine.

Thanks-guess it did have a rope seal with the pin missing when I took it apart.-Kind of seams like a model t or model a era deal :P

Yeah, I went through a phase many years ago where I built a lot of old vintage engines. The rope seals weren't my favorite choice but they always seemed to seal good with no leaking. Sometimes the simplest ideas seem to be the best mouse trap instead of making a better mouse trap works out to be.
