2bbl on an 81,Capri

I'd like to put a 2bbl on my 81 Mercury Capri, but I'm worried about hood clearance. Has anyone got any idea of any problems I'd have, also what about my kickdown lever for my c4? My 64 Falcon and Ranchero are way different in the way they are set up.

If your Capri dosen't have a hood scoop now, go & get one.
The Capri's of the 80's had neat hood scoops.
You should also open up the grills that are in the hood now.
I did that when I had my 81 Capri.

You'll need a scoop as you will have hood clearance problems if you put on a 2 bbl.
Because of the height of the adaptor and the height of the 2 bbl. carb.

Also you can leave the kick down linkage off for the C-4, if you need to gear down just do it manually.

there is some company that has all sorts of stuff for Capris. The hot setup they sell is a weber 38/38. Doesn't the capri have a Holley Weber 32/36 stock? Should be a straight swap.

8) only on the 4 cylinder and V6 engines. the inline six had the standard 1bbl carb.

Thanks guys, I was worried about the scoop idea because of the fact that the carb was so far over to the side. I have an old fox body turbo mustang that I was going pull the hood on but then I noticed that the hood on my Capri was slightly differant.
Does anybody have a good place to find a hood scoop? I saw one at JC Whitney but I'm not sure of the quality.

You will probably need a hood with the scoop already on it.

The underside bracing of the hoods with the hood scoop is different than the stock hoods.

Also the hood scoop cutout is cut out farther to the drivers side for carb clearance because thats where the carb turbo intake sat.

Inline six cars have the carb on the opposite side.

You might be better off making a adapter plate like Mustang Geezer did that has the bolts going into the intake counter sunk so the heads are flush with the gasket surface. He then bolted the carb directly to that.

If you all don't mind I'd love to hear some more suggestions on hopping it up. My main problem is finding an header, I'm having a hard time finding one and I see that their finally stocking one on the website now. Does anyone have any idea on how well it"ll fit? Thats my main set back now.
Thanks guys

I have a Clifford 6 into 1 header I bought a long time ago.
I don't know if they still offer that one anymore.

The best thing to do is to change the rear end gears.
You probably have 2:79 gears in it right now.
A change to 3:08's or 3:27's will really wake up the car.

If you're gonna use those gears, make sure you change the speedo pinion in the tranny so your speedometer reads correctly.

You may also want to run a taller tire in the rear.

Thanks for the tips. I'm planning on going to a 225/55-16 tire so that will put me going from a 24" to a 26" tire and if I figured right it'll only raise my rpm by about 250rpm. I haven't tryed to figure my final ratio but just off the top of my head I'm thinkin it'll be close to 3.08.

The next thing I'd like to try is to get rid of my power steering and go to manual. That power steering pump really pulls alot of power.Has anyone out there done that? It'll be easy to do but, my, main concern is how will it feel?

Once again thanks for the tips!!!! :D :D

IMHO I would keep the power steering and see if oyu can get the high effort rack and pinion and high volume power steering pump.

I had a manual rack and pinion in my 86LX and when the car was moving it felt like a sports car because you had excellent road feedback through the steering column.

But parking was a major PITA because bigh tires and nose heavy makes it harder to turn.

If it was a drag only car or very rarely street driven I would consider manual but I would rather take the hit on power steering than deal with trying to parallel park a car with P225/50-16's on front and 56% weight on the nose, felt like my shoulders were gonna pop out of socket.

I have a 200 I6 dual out long tube header but to make it work I will have to see about getting the down tubes sectioned and put back together.

80Stang said he tried the dual out header and it didnt fit IIRC

Thanks, thats good info.

This header thing is killin me,I keep thinkin about a header I saw in the tech section under the two barrel swap section. it was just a pipe welded together but if it works it works. I even had thougt about doing that before I saw the pic, but I just don't think it'll flow good. My lightoff cat was gutted when I got the car and I know its really causing a lot of turbulance. If I have to I'll goto an older model ex manifold :(

Any type of header, even if its a home made one will flow better than the stock cast iron exhaust manifold, don't be afraid to make one yourself.

To the original question: I'd say the 2-bbl will fit a Capri as it fits a Mustang, or is there a difference in hood clearance? I had a Capri L4 once and I'd say the hood stands in same position on both. I've run direct fit adapter + 1/2" spacer + Autolite 2100s & Holley 350s and they clear with a 14x2 "hipo" cleaner as well as modded original 1V cleaner (modded with a piece of 14x2 base to fit the 2V carb).

Headers: the older model FSPP single out fits ok, the older model FSPP dual out will not. I'm yet to see a dual out to fit a fox but I hope to see one "soon" as I'd like one myself for the next engine.

In one of my mustangs (79, 80, 86) I swapped the 1 bbl for a 2bbl (on the 4 banger). Had to go to the junk yard and get the manifold spacer, a nifty between the manifold and carb aluminum piece which has the EGR plumbing and bolts (allen head) to the manifold allowing Ford to use the same intake for both carbs. You might want to check to see if they did that also for the 6. If so, that helps with the clearance issue a lot. Just my 2.5cents (due to inflation) worth.

Well, got my 2 bbl on and it worked out better than I though it would.I had to use a throttle cable of of a 86 ranger to get the proper length and made a homemade bracket for it. The carb is a 2150 I had on a 351m that was sittin around, and a 3" aircleaner, I used a transdapt adapter to mount it to the intake and had no problems with my hood clearance.
Thanks for all the help guys :D

Here's a picture of my first attempt on putting a 2 bbl Motorcraft carb on my 250 motor.

The carb. is off a V8 and I bought a adaptor to mount it.
I've since milled off the 1 bbl. flange and will mount a Holley 2 bbl. with a spacer plate.
