5200 for blowthrough...

I was wondering if a 5200 with huge sec. jets could work for a blowthrough? most if not all are mech sec so there won't be any probs with that. and most turbo cars don't build much boost under 2/3-3/4 throttle so running on the primary should be ok right even if it is at 1-2 psi? just trying to get this figured out for some projects.

On a blowthrough turbo motor you could run a 5200 but I would recommend using a Holley 2300 350cfm. See if you can get that with mechanical secondaries. Or better yet(and more expensive) you can get a 38/38mm Weber DGEV CARB. Very similar to the 5200 but flows more air and bolts up to same flange.

well I am saying jet the secondary on the 5200 real rich to take care of the boost enrichment.

btw I noticed you are over on turboford.org....over there I am nick_purfield

kinda got mad, ran a calculator for a turbo 250 and was coming back as a .60 trim compressor and a 1.20 turbine side looks like when I get eh t3 rebuilt I might have a .82 exhaust side put on it just in case.

Nick,
I was thinking the same thing about using rich secondaries. In theory it should work depending on the max boost.
What I am planning on doing is running a 500 cfm (may be too big, but its what I got) and under max boost Im thinking of installing a cold start fuel injector just before the carb activated by a pressure switch. Should work great... in theory.

I would put the cold start in the carb bonet to spray down into the carb at 0psi. due to teh intake setup on these motors I don't know if you can get a good mixture in the log from it. the reason I am looking at a 5200 is that I already got the carb.

hey not to confuse things but i dont remember anything about the 5200. is it progressive? i had a post about i thought was all the carbs we could/should use for the turbo stuff?

just curious

The mixture shouldn't be a problem due to the fact of the high turbulence given by the turbo.

"I would put the cold start in the carb bonet to spray down into the carb at 0psi."

Why? I dont think I understand, the injector will be on all the time?

Anyways I would go the rich secondaries route. let me know how it works.

On a blowthrough a large part of the turbulence will be straightened out by the butterflies in the carb. If it were a draw through I would agree about the mixing.

You are probably OK. My 79 Carb turbo uses a draw through system and a Holley 5200 and thats what they did. The secondaries are set rich.

Hey Nick! glad to see ya around.

hey is the holley 5200 the same as a weber 32/36 progressive???

either way i hope it works. i will be putting together a turbo system for my 200 in the near future!!

Very Very close. The Holley 5200 wa a licence built copy of a Weber. I cant remember if it was a DGV or DFV series. I think it was a DGEV(electric choke).

My main concern of a blowthrough with 5200 is you will have to fabricate a blow through bonnet. I have seen several for the 2300 series but never one for a 5200.
