60's article triple carb mod

I just received a copy of Hot Rod magazine, March issue 1960. In this issue there is a six page article “Making your Falcon Flyâ€￾. They take a 144 ci in a 1960 Falcon and use what at the time was an Edelbrock triple intake and other mods. The manifold is the same design that now has the Offy name on it. In it they give dyno specs that show the respectable increase in power they obtained.

They said that Ford at the time was thinking of using the setup as a regular production option, it’s too bad they dropped the ball on that one. I guess they decided going to the 170 would be enough.

I don’t know if there are any problems with sending scanned pages from a 46yr old magazine. If there aren’t any I can send copies to anyone that might want some.

Does anyone know magazine that had an article with a pic of three ford six cylinders in it? One had a blower with the three carb setup?

Yup, got it for Christmas. May 1960 Hot Rod.

3 guys in red-and-white shirts leaning in around the engine bay of a '60 Falcon, looking at the stock 144. All that's missing is the caption: "Hey, Duke - Whaddya think about putting a centrifugal blower and three carbs on it?"

In front of the Falcon are 3 engines on stands:
* A "Stroppe and Associates" Triple-Carb
* A bored, cammed, Paxton centrifugal supercharged tri-carb (same setup on a single carb made 168hp)
* A bored (156cid), ported, polished, cammed full race engine with oversized valves, Hilborn alky injection, Scintilla magneto, and possible nitro.

Other articles:
* '60 Pontiac Tempest
* Getting 400 cid from a Chevy 283 using a $600 billet crank (gadzooks!)
* Australia's First Drag Meet - Castlereagh airstrip near Sydney

What I get a kick out of is the articles and ads for go-karts.

How about that, two artcles about hot Ford sixes in one year. To bad it was 46yrs ago.

Thanks alot I'll have to see if I can get a hold of that one too.

Yup, that's it: "Modifying the Falcon 6"

I get a real kick from the guys on the cover!
