68 Carb on 66 200 ci

Any reason that a 68 Ford Autolite 1bl carb would have a problem on a 66 Ford Mustang, 200 with a 1bl? I think that it was originally spec'd for a falcon on econoline. The linkage all looks good but did not know if there was an issue I was not aware of?

Thanks for the input!

'66 used a Load-O-Matic distributor and a '68 did not. The carburator will not have the correct port for your vacuum source. If you have updated your distributor this is no longer an issue.

Ron is correct, but this is the perfect time to replace the ignition system. Upgrading to the non-Loadomatic distributor is a simple swap. If you want even better performance, go with the DS II swap...

I think this carb is listed for a 66 econoline or 66 Falcon. Any other way I can tell? I have a Petronix II, will that help or hinder?

Also, this carb is new, in the original box. It is listed as a 66-68 Carb. Does anyone know if the falcon or econoline had the loadomatic or was it removed from them earlier?

What will happen if this was not designed for the non-loadomatic and I put it on?

Thanks.

up to and including '67 carburators were designed for Load-O-Matic distributors. Starting in '68 carburators were not designed with the Load-O-Matic in mind and do not have the proper provisions for hooking up vacuum lines. If you try to use a '68 or later carb with a '67 or newer distributor you will experience timing related issues due to incorrect vacuum signal to the distributor.

However since your carb is labeled to be '66-'68 I'd suspect that it is an earlier Load-O-Matic type and that you should not have any problem.

If it is a carb that is designed to work with a load'Omatic there should be a large (about 1" diameter) power valve looking device screwed into the side of the carb and another threaded hole about 1/2-3/4" away (it should look just like the carb you have on your car now)

Here's Pony Carb's eBay page for their Vaporizer (autolite 1100 with SCV), if your new carb looks like this

(yours might not have that front dashpot)

Then you should be set to continue using your Load-O-Matic and Petronix.

Here are a few photos of the carb. There is a tag on it that reads as follows:

C8PF G
B 8G 26

The box says factory replacement.

Please let me know.

looks like an SCV (for a load'O dist) carb to me. In the first pic, you need to put a control valve (it screws in) into the hole on the bottom left, then there should be a brass adapter on your current carb that spins into the upper right hole. Then you hard line to distributor hooks into the brass adapter.

Looks like it's a single diaphram carb used on manual trans cars.
Dual diaphram were used on automatic trans cars.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the control valve do? It appears that there is nothing behind the threaded left hole, in the first picture. Does it push against some linkage?
