Accelerator Retracter spring

After almost 40 years my friends spring broke. He went to the local Ford and got the only replacement they had. It has long straight ends that need to be bent to the correct length. He doesn't want to bend it all up trying to make it right. Does anybody have an idea of where the bends should be made for his stock 200 2 barrel. A dimension and a pic would be great. Thanks.

you should bring the part to the dealer the original one thats broken... im sure they can get it somehow if not try discount auto parts they actually have aftermarket things for old cars that work... if not go boneyardin=)

Go to Kragan or Shucks or whatever and get a spring assortment for six or eight dollars, like in the song: short ones, tall ones, fat ones, small ones. They all have long, straight ends but three or four will be close to the right return tension. Bend up a trial one and see how that works. Too loose, make the next one shorter and vice versa. Or if you've used up all the appropriate springs and still cant get it right, make up a short one with hooks on each end, then take a length or wire and make a loop or bend up an S hook. You can make a bunch of these of various lenghs to get at one that has the right return weigh. You might want to try it one way for a while and then use more or less tension later. Skip the expensive one-only package.
