Saw a statement recently that solid lifters were discontinued after 62 and that small sixes came with Hydrulic lifters and adjustable rockers. Anybody have any facts on this? I did a bunch of research but couldn't find anything on this.
-- I did read (in a Ford publication) where some 200's were made with solid lifters in certain Econolines and Bronco's, which just shows NOTHING is set in concrete where Ford is concerned.
Thanks, Dan

Howdy Dan:

To the best of my knowledge, and, as you know, with FoMoCo nothng is cast in stone-

Fomoco began changing from Solid lifter cams to Hydraulic in the '64 and '65 model year. It is a safe bet that any block with a C4xx or earlier casting will be a 4 main, solid lifter block with a small distributor hole and driveshaft, and adjustible rocker arms. Some of these were 200 blocks in Fairlanes and Meteors.

The C5xx casting # blocks were the beginning of 7 main, hydraulic lifter, larger distributor hole and driveshaft. Some of these still had adjustible rocker arms.

I do not know about any exceptions for Bronco or Econolines.

Hope that helps a little.

Adios, David
