Was adjusting valves and setting up timing last night. All went well except that three lifters were very soft and could be pushed easily by hand. This made it difficult to adjust. I did it by ensuring that the pushrod end of rocker was holding the pushrod firmly while using a feeler gauge to check valve side at same time. When I just used usual method with just feeler gauge it almost tightened indefinitely without it biting on guage much at all. Maybe this is why last time the Mechanic did it I ended up with bent pushrods.
Dicovered latter from machinist that when I start engine lifters will restore themselves to correct pressure when oil re-circulates.
Possibly was made worse by me having engine lying on side for a week.
Any thoughts?
