Hey all, new here and new to Fords. I have a buddy with a 66 Mustang (I think it's a 66 anyways) and it seems to have a rod bearing knock. I'm not 100% sure it's a rod bearing, it almost sounds like it's in the upper part of the motor. In the attached video you can hear the tap go away when he lets off the throttle. When ever I have dealt with rod problems in the past it's has always made the noise, which made me think this isn't a rod problem. Also when looking at the springs and valves there seems to be some sort of rubber bushing on some of the valves and it's all eaten up and in chunks in other valves. If this turns out to be a rod knock we'll be pulling the engine and tearing it down and rebuilding it. Anything wierd to watch for in these engines?? I've rebuild a Chevy 350 in my Camaro, everyone and their mother's can rebuild one of those though, not hard. ;) I looked into a rebuild kit from PAW, probably the crank kit, comes with a new crank, rods and pretty much everything else we would need in one shot. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That's a 67 Mustang. I would take the head off and inspect the rods, lifters, and valves. What ever that is, it doesn't sound good.

i was refering to the pushrods. I would still pull the head and look it over carefully for damage.
