Air Filter: Oil Bath vs. Paper Element

My 64 F-100 w/223 1bbl. (all original) has the oil bath. It works fine as far as I know, but its kind of messy. I'm thinking about going paper & maybe just using the oil bath in the future if I take it to a show.
has anyone made this change, and maybe refer a breather that will fit?

Umm, its a little messy
I clean my oil bath air cleaner and refill it at the same time I do an oil change, so it isnt creating an extra mess.
I use the oilchange pan to clean the filter just before Idrain the crancase.
I dont know of a dry type you can use on these, but im sure one of those little chrome hot-rodder types has a neck that will fit.
I wont change to a dry type. I believe they are more restrictive to airflow especially as they begin to trap more dust over time and the filter elements cost money. Theres nothing to replace on the oil bath types.

I convert all my engines (carbed, that is) TO oil bath FROM paper element because I live in a dusty region that causes paper elements to clog up rapidly. My engines get long life and stay clean, so I believe in oil-bath air cleaning.

One thing you need to be aware of is that size and condition of the breathers is critical. The housing must be sized properly to the engine AND the impingement media must be in good condition. Older breathers used horsehair that usually stays in good shape, while newer ones used something similar to the old excelsior packaging material. That type deteriorates and should be replaced. I use coarse stainless steel wool to replace deteriorated element material.

My 58 F-100 w/223 came with a paper element from the factory. I believe they came both ways depending on how the truck was ordered. So, if it's still all stock, find another 223 p/u with a paper element air cleaner and just change it over.
