alternator relocation

I have a '62 Ranchero with a x-flow. I would like to relocate the alternator to the power steering side of the engine. The drivers side in Us and passenger in Australia ( I have a power steering bracket but I do not use it).I thought maybe a alienator from a US 250 could be modified? But they are hard to find. I hope someone has an easier idea. Thank for any ideas, Ken

The XC Falcons and TE Cortinas had a York style A/C unit, which is mounted above the power steering units in the GXL's and Ghias.

Thats the sort of bracket you can use. The early iron head cross flow was a bit more compact than the alloy head. I have a photo from way back, but can't lay my hands on it quick. I'll do a search and see if I can post a Cortina or XC/XD with the high mount a/c unit.

Sorry, still cannot find it.

This iron head x-flow TE had low mount a/c on US drivers side, but no p/s

This alloy head x-flow TF had low mount US passenger side Ogura/Sanden pump, and P/Son US drivers side

Xctasy, Thanks for being a part of this board. You are a authority on sixes. I know if there is an answer to my alternator you will help. Ken

Gracious thanks but Its not true...I've just owned and messed with more Aussie Cortina's and driven more cross flow Falcons than you have   , so that makes me an expert?

Nothing on the net shows the 1978 XC Falcon at my old work which had a 250 power steered and A/C unit.

So I think its best to get the late Fox 3.3/200 air pump bracket, and put that on the X-flow to mount the alternator.

Here is a power steered, non air conditioned Cortina TE. I'm getting closer to that bracket

I'm just looking for a power steered, air conditioned 77-80 TE Cortina or 76-79 XC Falcon Six, or maybee Fairlane ZJ / LTD FC (1979–1982), I'm sure a 4.1 of this type will have a high mount A/C unit.

Ahhhh, found a GXL 4.1 P/S, but no a/c

a P/S 4.1 XC WITH P/S, but no a/c

Then saw nothing but the later alloy head engine which has the US passenger side a/c and alternator and US drivers side power steering in it. 20 th picture down on page 1

I'd try either the Fox 3.3 air pump bracket, or the Pinto/Fox Lima 2300 alternator. Each should fit better. The XR4Ti Merkur, EFI Tbird Super Coupe or SVO or GTTurbo Mustang should have the brackets to match the power steering.

The L and C code 250 engines with drivers side alternator might work, but it looks like they might come close to hitting the head or intake. The Aussie and US 250 have similar hard dimensions.

Stock US drivers side Aussie York/SelectAire or Motorcraft twin piston A/C units with power steering weren't made in great numbers, although I've seen one before, its easier to use the American parts and hook them into the power steering pump bracket.
