Another cold air setup. "UPDATE"

All I gotta do is buff the hood out and install the new ford letters and the install is complete.

Its a hoodscoop off a 70 Boss 429 mustang. The scoop measures roughly 24"x28"x4" tall at the front. I cut a 14" square hole in the hood to supply the air to the carb.

Heres a closer view,

And the tray,

We'll find out friday (hopefully if nothing breaks again) :? How much of a gain its worth at the track.

Doug, if it runs as good as it looks you will be very satisfied.

Thanks!

Actually got quite the good deal on the hood as our supplier (Keystone) bought out another company and they happened to have 5 Mustang hoods in stock. My cost was $125.00 N.I.B.

Scoop was $140

The paint cost was a big fat O!! Our Lesonal supplier has been itching to supply me the paint for an overall this fall (to cover up the PPG Deltron) so I got a gallon of Lesonal Ford code KM paint, gallon of medium reducer, gallon of Lesonal universal clear, 1 qt each of fast and slow activator and a quart of hardener.

At least $800 of materials for FREE! :D :D :D

Hardest thing was reshaping the hoodscoop so it would fit a 66 hood.

Just got the weather report from the track and its supposed to be 76 degrees for a high on Friday with a low of 55 friday night so it sounds like good race weather for a change!

Great job! The scoop looks good.

Have you thought about a different air cleaner with a open top?

Looks great Doug, I can't wait to hear how it works for you. Very COOL idea. How well does it seal to the hood?

PS: Did it come yet? If you know what I'm refering too?

That looks awesome! I imagine you will be running at the track without the air cleaner. I suspect at least a tenth reduction in et. And, ummm...also wondering if it has arrived yet...tee hee...I think I know.

Thanks everyone!

Nope hasnt arrived yet but hopefully soon.....

I race this friday and next friday then they have big meets scheduled until august 15th so I wont be able to race until then :?

I'm looking at a K&N 11" filter that has the filter material in the lid also but its $150.00 so I have to wait a week or two to get it.

Air cleaner removal is good for a consistant 2/10'ths gain!

Doug, Looks good! I think the K&N open top should help also,ya' may need to do some carb tuning with the open top. Your track is open on July 4th??

Doug, good luck Friday. My prediction...14.84@94mph...but get some slicks why don't you...or drag radials...or...you need the traction right?

Actually I've benn doing most of my carb tuning with it removed. Seems to be working pretty well so far.

Yep,

track is open all weekend long http://www.us131motorsportspark.com/

Lucky me, and I get the day off work too!

I'm hoping its that good at least!

I got some slapper bars and 9 way adjustable drag shocks for the rear and so far the last couple of nights racing its hooked up really really well!

Thanks,

:D :D :D :D

Just got back from the race track!!!

I'll list all the times but the best was a,

60' 2.08 1/8 mile 9.34 @ 74.63 1/4 mile 14.69 @ 90.98

Carb is funny though.....

206 cubic inches with a 600 cfm Holley 4 Bbl. I rejetted it fatter yet with number 70 jets on the primary side and I installed the lightest spring Holley makes and it still looks like its running lean according to the spark plugs.

I originally started the night out with the short yellow secondary spring and # 68 jets but it had a lean surge when I was wound out in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Plugs are white so I jetted up and put the lightest secondary spring in it.

The time isnt a fluke either....

I have more time slips that I'll list tomorrow that are 14.71, 14.80, 14.76, 14.76, 14.73 & 14.73.

Very consistent too!

Most of the 60 foot times are in the 2.08-2.10 second times.

Doug

Good times 8)

on the 600, i'm betting the bigger carb needs larger jets. these little sixes don't pull the cfm. so the jets need to be fatter. it's the velocity, or lack of..

That really is a nice looking car. 8)
