I'll digitise the article and post it.
It was never released, but the parts saw duty on many street XF's in Aussie and New Zealand. Was supposed to have 146 kW carby six, but Ford never lent a bean.
Just like
the 1988 EA Turbo,
the 1983 SVO alloy head
The 1983 EFI 5.8 Cleveland
David Innals 1984 AIT Turbo,
the 1987 AIT xTrack Falcon 4x4,
the proposed 1985 SVO 5.0 HO XF,
the 1983 XE Falcon Gran Prix Turbo,
the 1985 Dick Johnston/HKS Turbo EFI XF,
the 1980's Phase Five Automotive XD and XE's,
the 1978 Repco Fuel Injection XC 351....get the picture?
Obstruction from Henry Ford II's 'the V8 is doomed in the Blackwoods' talk in 1979, Max Gransdens' zero investment in turbos (which spawned the discusting 1985 Ford Laser carby Turbo which gave Ford so many service headaches), Bill Dix (who was more interested insecuring the EA 26 project than flogging screaming sixes), and a lot of other Ford heavies in Oz who were more interested in getting export credits than making kick ass product.
The XR6 Turbo could have been a 1985 XF Falcon. The 4X4 AIT Twin Turbo XF could have been a factory Bathurst contenter for the Skyline GTR, but oh no, Ford were more worried about how the Borg Warner 40 would cope with a 500 newton metres of grunt when they had a perfectly good AOD-E trans on offer. All this from the same team that gave 260 kw Phase III's with bomb proof Toploaders, 31 spline 9" ers, and 141 mph on the rev limter in 1971.
I suppose Ford almost going bankrupt in the US in the early 1980's had something to do with it, but still...
Thankfully, things have changed!
