Anyone modified the log head to something like this?

These are some quick sketchs of a possible modified lod. Has anyone tried something like this or do people just mill the runners off and bolt a flange to the head. I got the first picture from the book "The Ford Falcon Performance Handbook" by David and Dennis Schjeldahl on page 20. (here's a link to purchase: http://www.falcon6handbook.com ) In the first picture my thought was to mill off the top and outside wall of the log and provide some way of bolting a new extended bottom, side and top to it.

This second picture is rough (made it on my tablet) but I think you can get the idea. I have NO automotive training at all so if it not at all possible just come out and say it you will not hurt my feeling. My thought was by having the largest runners to 1 & 6, smaller to 2 & 5 and the smallest to 3 & 4 this would bias the flow and help distripute it to the outer cylinders. Again it will not hurt my feeling to say it will not work, however can you explain why so that I can maybe modify it, or start a different thought process.

Thanks for your time

Hiya Skye. I see no real flaw in your sketch and what you are proposing has been been done before by a couple guys here. If you are a machinist and have unlimited access to the required equipment, I would say go for it.

I can't remember his name but a member here made a manifold like this and ran it in a 250, 5 speed fairmont with a few special parts and it trapped 120 mph as and what he did was quite impressive. I remember the build and it looked like many countless hours of machine work and welding. I will try to find the thread for you.

Like I said, if you have access to the equipment and the time to spend on it, I'd say go for it, but if you have to pay for it you would be WAY ahead of the game financially to buy the aluminum head, no question about it. Machine work ain't cheap, especially that amount of it. 8)

Anyway, if you haven't seen it yet, here is the thread with the milled head 250 Fairmont. Looks very similar to what you are planning:

And another mod-log head that is a bit different but the same idea.
