aussie heads

How much weight can one carry in a standard suitcase in the luggage compartment of a plane? Do airlines have weight limits?

reason I am asking - seems as if there is a decent demand in the states for these heads. Suppose I was to want to travel abroad, and smuggle an aussie head back in my suitcase, and drop it on ebay to help cover some of my travel costs... Is this a silly idea or a feasable way for me to be able to travel cheaper?

id say if u can check som with ur baggage if u can that way u will probably be able to pay for the whole trip and then som from selling the heads on ebay

how much would one of these heads weigh? With further investigation, 70-75lbs per bag seems to be what one can get away with... additionall charges may apply for extra weight. Hell, I should get an allowance for being a skinny guy!

The customs duty on one head for personal use is nil. They probably wouldn't even look at it. Try and bring back half a dozen and you would have to declare them, but even then the tariff is so low that US Customs would probably not even bother to process the paperwork.

The bigger problem is weight. On most airlines, bags can't weigh more than 50lbs each. 51-70 lbs usually they tack on another $25. 71-100 lbs is something like $100. An Aussie head is right at 75 lbs.

Seems even with additional airline weight fees, it's a good idea and a good investment.

Declare them for personal use, even more than one. They aren't going to care about 5 or 6 heads when the guy next to you has 25 pair of sneakers, 300 VCDs or even drugs.

I asked Northwest years ago about weight limit for backage per customer and they told me 400lbs. I boxed up my entire tool collection in Ohio and brought it back with me to California. The year was 1988ish. I know things have changed since then, but how much?

Welcome to the days of airlines losing money. They once wanted me and my wife to pay $100 per dog (we had 2 dogs) per one way (so $400 total) to stuff them under the seats. We had no carryons (our dogs were the carryon, and small). $200 per dog was more then we paid for our tickets. I asked if they were going to get a seat for that price and they said "no, it's just the new fee". I asked if they were charging people $100 for carryon they were putting under their seats? "No". So I asked to see the shift manager and my wife argued with him (gotta love her being a law student) until he just agreed to let us take them for free.

I mean, I can understand if they were big, or something like that. But they are Pugs, and were smaller the most people's carryon. We were never charged in the past until all of a sudden, one day they started to charge. I told him I would pay if they each got a seat for that price.

The heads aren't exactly common over here. It might take a week to secure one, and that could be 1000 miles from where you're camped. Weight with manifold is 37 kilograms.

Customs won't know the difference if you declare the head as "American made - returning to USA". This is/was the classic way to avoid import taxes selling Fender guitars (worth thousands) back to the US.

Regards, Adam.
