bellhousings

Only two or three US guys have the Aussie or Argentine 221 I6, so its up to the Antipodeans to help out!

The pre 1966 Aussie and US four bearing 170 has a different bellhousing pattern to the seven bearing version used in the 66 XR Falcon.

If then 170 is out of the early roundbody Falcons, then you need the rare BW35 automatic adaptor found on XP Falcons to fit the earlier trans to the 221.

Best bet is to use a C4 or BW 35 auto. Early gearboxes to 1968 lacked a syncronised first gear.

i can get a toyota 5 speed conversion that is bolted behind a 170 that has been in an xp, the 221 that i have at the moment has a BW35 behind it atm

Well, I would say it is either the later block, or has an adaptor plate (what casting codes on the block?). The 5-speed bellhousings for the smallback motors are RARE.

If it has a Ford adaptor plate, I would be interested in snagging it to put my all-synchro onto the XM 170.

Thanks, Adam.

all i could c was sum numbers on the head... where bouts are the ones on the block?
on the head there is
ARC8DE 6049-A
i cant c an adaptor there so i guess the toyota converion isnt going to fit?
thanks
brendan

C8 is almost certainly an XT 221 head. What is on the 170 block? Look around the coil area. It will have 6015 in the code.

yep its out of an XT.... I now have another question to do with bellhousings lol will a BW35 from a 221 fit a 250?
thanks
brendan

You need a different flexplate, but everything else is a straight swap.

BTW, the free 250 is in Newcastle NSW. :?

yeh i have been considering a 250 for ages and that juz made me think about what i would need to do, that motor is too far away lol wont b drivin near there anytime soon :( hopefully i will b able to pik one up cheap down here sumwhere
thanks for the help addo
