Calling all sixes with exhaust! Please post about your setup

I'll be adding an exhaust to my 200 very soon. I have a Hooker SuperComp Header. I'll be using 2.5" mendrel bent tubing all the way back, probably with a Flowmaster 50 series, and possibly a resonator if I think it's too noisy. Keep in mind, I'm throwing a supercharger setup on it soon if 2.5" sounds too large. I'd like to hear about other exhaust setups, Pros and Cons, anything you would like to do differently. Your input will be very helpful to me and others looking at similar mods. Thanks guys!

i have a 2.25 pipe going to a 40 series the olly thing i dont like is the drone at 1500-1800 rpms its a tad annoying. on the highway the dron almost diasappears the 50s are even quiter at highwAy speeds but are just as drony at 1500-1800rpms. then again i am running a stock exhayustmanifold so the sound can be iffy but i like mine for the most part. the best way to gte the best sound is go dual outlet headers to 50 mufflersw then it sounds like a beast.

I am running a dual exhaust setup with a Pacemaker dual out header with true duals going back dumping out before the rear axel out of a pair of flowmaster 50's. I think it sounds really good and aggresive. There is a little bit of a drone at lower speeds. Everybody thinks I have a small block under the hood. If you like your car more on the quiet side I would probably stay away from flowmasters but I'm young so I'm lovin it.

I'm working on a '63 wagon with dual out Hookers.

Here's the '61 Comet/Clifford 250. It has a dual out Hooker 6602's (Maverick application) to Smithy's and turned out in front of rear wheels:

A little loud but has that nice cackle sound with the 272 cam, 2" pipes and Smithys'...

Powerband

I also have hooker super competion headers then to a 2" system, but not a supercharged engine.
To quiet the drone i installed a X pipe, or you can use a crossover pipe.

The mufflers are flowmaster hushpower, they are loud.
I feel dynomax would be a quieter system.

dual outlet clifford headers, 2.5" pipe all the way back, 2 magnaflow glasspacks thrown in between 8)

sounds real good at 5k rpm

I would say go with the 2.5", I personally dislike flowmasters. ALOT

I'm running a 3"collector Y'ed to dual 2.5", (2) Spin Tech mufflers then over the axle and straight out the back. All mandrel bent....

And I'm Ditching the Spintechs for a pair of custom made mufflers from the exhaust shop I am employed at.
(The mufflers are built by Thermal Research and Development, think of magnaflows with way better look & quality)

Until a turbo and 3" downpipe are installed, Im just using the stock manifold and pipe stretched up to bolt to the 3" collector flange.

Definately want to redo it tuck it up, I did a bad job, but it's when I just started working at this shop.

2 and a quarter with a dual clifford. Off the shelf turbos and all the way to the bumpers. I have literally won bets as to whats under the hood based on the sound that comes out of this thing!

I am in the process of putting on a 2 1/4" dual exhaust system on a modified 250 pre crossflow in a Cortina (Australia), the exhaust exiting at the rear of the car, haven't decided on mufflers yet and the extractors are custom. I have heard that these motors can sound like a small block with the correct exhaust system. Does having a port divider installed in the head affect this at all? In general, will a larger pipe be louder (or drone more) when using the same mufflers?

I have a 6 into 1 Clifford header, 2" pipe all the way back to a Flowmaster 80 series; single inlet, dual outlet. Mounted the muffler Z28 style, right behind the rear axle. I really like it. Sounds great!

...........Cheers, Alex

With my 200 there is FSPP "Vintage" single out ceramic coated header connected with 2.5" piping to a Dynomax/Walker super turbo muffler and finished with a 2.25" tailpipe after the muffler.
