Ford mustang 200 with autolite 1100 svc and load-a-matic. Car runs and drives great but stumbles or dies when making sharp right turns. Used to do it on bumps too until i lowered float. Lowering float did help with stumble. But did not fix it. It could be the missing vent rod on carburator. But i dont know. HELP!!!

Nate

I had an 1100 with a missing vent rod on my Mustang 200 for decades and it didn't die on right hand turns. Do you see any signs of leaking gas around the carb vent, especially if you jump out and check it right after it dies? Before you lowered your float height, was it set at the spec?

Important question: fuel level too low can move enough gas away from the jet when the fuel is shifted one way or the other by turning/braking that it goes lean and stumbles.

Float was set to 1 and 3/32, but now float is 1/8 lower. (higher when flipped) I will check for leakes around vent. Was yours plugged or missing? mine is plugged by rebuilder

Probably carb. but do not discount ignition switch, especially if you have a wad of keys hanging on it. Try fiddling with it when problem occurs.

Only happens on right hand turns and big bumps. Left turns never stall. So you think i should try raising float higher than 1 and 1/32? when i lowered it things improved

No I can't advise on float level for that carb. Just bringing up the slosh factor, which affects all carbs to some *, and is exacerbated by too low or too high fuel level in the bowl.
Here's another possible cause- I only mention it because I've seen it: physical movement under the hood that is causing an ignition short. Can be any thing from wires moving a fraction of an inch to bad motor mounts or anything in between. Unlikely I know, but this cause had my son and I chasing our tail on a '71 Chrysler for several days. In this case a bad motor mount allowing the engine to rock upward on hard acceleration, which caused an electric short and instant loss of power.

The wife and I rebuilt our 69 Falcon auto Shift coller back in 2019 . If I turn the wheel hard too the end it grounds out and kills the electrical everytime . I just don’t make U-turns !

motor mount (not tower) ?
(could B ign too as a ground gets weighted)

just nother ‘rule out’ in the decision tree. Check
it out. While doing so U may C something else
contributing (or needing attention). Simple enuff
(& -0- time consumption) proceedure any way.
