Carb Tag Decoding

I found a RBS carb at a local flea market and am wondering if it follows the same format as engine block codes. For example, on engines, Cxxx indicates 1960 something, Dxxx indicates 1970 something and Exxx indicates 1980 something.

Following this logic, a tag of D4PE would have a year of 1974.

The tag info is as follows:

D4PE AJA
A 7 370 11

Anyone have any idea what the remainder of this information means?

Howdy Kurt:

You're right about the year code. The third character refers to the application. In this case a "P" indicates "Replacement Parts".

I don't know about the "E". Most carb tags have an "F" in the 4th spot. Are you sure that it's an "E"?

The suffix "AJA" refers to a unique application of this carb. There are many, and few are listed anywhere.

Thanks for the help with the decoding. The fourth letter could be an F, I was quickly jotting down the info and may have miscopied it.

I went back and looked at the carb again. It is missing some parts, so I probably will not get it, but the info that you provided is very helpful.
